''DEVDAS''

A lot of money has been spent on lavishly decorated sets and dresses but, in my honest opinion, the movie still belongs to 19th or early 20th century period. It is definitely not a present-day movie. The story suits only to 1940-50 era when youth would waste their lives on ’kothas’, ’twaifs’ and ’sha’airy’ alonwith excessive drinking of alcohol. The writer has tried to give modern touch by importing hero from abroad but even that didn’t change the essence of hypocisy that prevailed the movie at all times.

Ashwarya looked visibly taller than Madhury and that also goes for her performance in comparison. Madhury should better stick now to her married life only. Shahrukh is OK but you can’t avoid comparing him with old movie Thespian, Dilip Kumar in old Devdas. Dilip’s acting looked natural but Shahrukh looked ’doing it’.

I shall rate this movie as 3 out of 5 stars.
