Enjoy Barrenland

Last year on august I went to Humpi. It is a historical place in north Karnataka. Humpi is a barren land, covered with stones and the little touch of greeneries make the city attractive.

HISTORY OF HUMPI:

In the 16th century Humpi was the capital of a hindu kingdom Vijaynagara. Beside the Tungabhadra river, this 33 km large area tells the story of its past glory. Hindu raja Krishnadeva’s capital was smashed in a war with five rival kingdom in1565. After that incident Humpi was completely detached from the main part of Karnataka. Now India’s government has announced the specific area as a’WORLD  HERITAGE  CITY’.

WHAT TO SEE:

Humpi Bazar:  It is the main land mark of Humpi. Accommodation and transport are available here.

Bistappaya tower:  This 165ft high tower remind as a gate way of this city.

Temples:  Hajara Rama, Pataleswara, aveerabhadra and all other temples are the proof of the ancient culture of the kingdom. The architectural concept and the artistic works of the temple pillars are amazing.

Vittala Temple:  The world famous stone chariot and the musical pillars of this temple astonish travelers.

King Balance, Lotus Mahal, Queen’s Bath, Noble men’s Palace, Elephant Stable . all are the living proof of the of the ancient monarchs.

The landscape of the Humpi is totally different from others. It’s not only a historical place, the specific beauty of this is amazing for nature lover.

HOW TO GO:

KSRTC busses are from Bangalore. Regular service is available from Bangalore to Hospet, and Hospet to Humpi. From Hospet one can go to Humpi by auto, taxi etc. Train journey is more comfortable. Hubli Humpi Express takes one night to reach Hospet. From Hospet it will take maximum two hours to reach Humpi by road.

WHERE TO STAY:

Good accommodation is available but it’s difficult to find any furnished hotel. Getting ordinary food is easy and affordable

PERFET TIME:

March to October is good for visiting Humpi
