The views expressed here are my own and in no way project or try to project theright or thewrong.
The reason
Why do I write? I write because frankly, I like it when people read my views. I just love reading comments on my reviews, like it when they express agreements, bits of information, disagreements, opinions and the like. It is this inherent nature of humans to voice their opinions that MS exemplifies.
Had MS been a strictly review-writing affair, it would have been nothing more than a blog - and a restricted one at that. Why not blog then? Because of the community factor. I make friends here. I get to know about a lot of people and their views on myself. When I like a product, I want to tell people about it. Same is the case when I am disappointed by one. I just love to write which is the reason that probably explains my writing of the not-so-well-received gaming reviews.
The sticky part
A good review sticks to the product/service it corresponds to. We are not supposed to write stories here so avoid that. Long buildups and needless tit-bits are something I dislike the most while reading a review. If one does not have enough to say, he should be content with commenting on the product rather than including irrelevant talk.
The long and short of it
A good concept or fresh way of writing a review is always great. Also one should try to keep not-so-important points out of a review, because they only add up bulk to the review without contributing to its quality. Describing the label graphics on a can of cola is the best way to shoo-off the readers. A good review is almost never 1500 words large while a 150 word one can be great if it stresses all important points and is honest and concise.
Haha to boohoo
Also a general habit is to write irrelevant conversations and paragraphs just for adding humor to the review. This in my opinion defies logic. Humor should be related to the concerned product/service only. M2Ms and comments also give an opportunity to make people laugh.
Eye candy?
The comfort of the reader is important and therefore, next comes formatting. One big paragraph with erroneous punctuation is a turn-off. Headings also make the review readable and more inviting whereas bolds and italics change the monotony while stressing on important elements.
Floods are us
Writing a review just for the heck of it will most likely churn out an average review. When one submits 5-6 reviews a day, I fail to believe that each one of those is a well-though out piece unless the writer is a really good reviewer. Most of the better reviewers do not write many reviews a day which provides them time to smoothen the irregularities.
Reviewer because I feelwriting andreviewing are pretty different things and I think many would agree with me here.
