X-Men Apocalypse is several steps backwards for the mutant franchise. Everything that made the reboot interesting is thrown out the window as Singer takes us back to 2005-esque character portrayals and storytelling with a plethora of completely unnecessary fanservice that could only be appreciated by comic book loyalists. I dont even know where to start with this one to be honest, the tacky villain? The massive cast of opaque characters? Erics little vacation in fake drama? The hilariously cheesy melodramatic climax? The weak offbeat humour? Its just everything we hated from the first X-Men trilogy brought back to life. Makes me wish for another reboot in the hands of Marvel.
