Shocking Policies of Xerox

Well I had a Specific requirement, where I was looking for a Laser Printer, Which could handle paper of about 200 gsm ( in layman’s term - a heavier and thicker paper than the regular paper most of us use) After searching the market and talking to a number of companies regarding the options available, I finally decided on Xerox Docuprint N2125 Placed the order with a local dealer and awaited delivery.

Finally I received delivery of the Printer 2 days later than the promised date, however I discounted the same as something which can happen. The Carton of the printer appeared old and in a worn out condition - which initially alarmed me. It seemed as this printer had already made its share of journeys....... One of the Stickers on the Carton described the date of Import into India as August 2001 Date of Manufacture is anyone’s guess. However despite paying for a new printer I have ended up buying a printer which has been manufactured more then 3 years back.

On opening the Carton - the packing was found in good condition, and the printer also seemed in an okay condition. But I was really shocked when I opened the Paper Tray and the back Panel and saw black stains thanks to the toner. This means Xerox shipped me a printer, which has already been used either by another customer or by Xerox themselves for Demos and probably road-shows.

Xexox’s response in this complete issue has been:

1) The Printer is new and not being used earlier.

2) Date of Manufacture is not the customers concern, since they are offering the product at a fantastic price.

My response to both these issues has been:

1) Let Xerox certify in writing that this printer is New Brand and not being used earlier. (Which until now Xerox has stalled)

2) I bought the printer at the price offered by you, Xerox didnt offer me any special discounts. Plus it was never mentioned to me during the ordering process that this Printer has been manufactured more then 3 years back.

Still the issue is unresolved, in fact dont think it will be resolved at all. My question is ’Would Xerox do the same to a Customer in America or for that matter in any other developed country?’

My advice to anybody planning to buy any Xerox product -’’Beware’’
