I am a little shocked at the moment because many of my favorite apps are not compatible with this device, such as NDTV, TOI, Cleartrip, Yatra, Google Keep, Citibank, Foodpanda to name a few.
That aside, Mi Pad feels like a premium tablet due to its superior build quality and HD display. Browsing on Chrome is lightning fast. YouTube experience is smooth. Apps download from the Google Play in a snap. No problems with moderate multi-tasking. In short, there is no visible lag and the overall experience is very fluid.
Since this is a 4:3 tablet, one-handed use is practically not possible, which in a way is good because the glossy finish makes the tablet a bit slippery. The tablet, however, feels very light in hand.
Games load very fast on this devise. I played a few games with high graphics settings turned on without any lag. For example, Temple Run Oz, Wind-up Knight, Trials Frontier, and One More Line. Tried Bowmaster, but it crashes every time as soon as it is launched.
Battery seems to be good. I used the tablet for about 8 hours on full brightness and consumed 60% battery. Charging is also very fast.
Camera is reasonably good for still photos as well as shooting videos. Front camera too takes clear photos under bright lights.
Stereo speakers are loud and much better than Nexus 7’s speaker.
The notification light at the front comes in very handy. It blinks in different colors to indicate notification, charging status etc.
I found Wi-Fi reception a little weaker than Nexus 7 2012 model which concerns me a bit.
I am new to MIUI, but don’t have any complaints other than the app compatibility issues. Fortunately it uses Google keyboard by default which supports swipe typing. A minor thing to observe is most non-MI app icons appear smaller and are wrapped inside a box, including icons of all Google apps. When placed on the app dock, these icons do not look too appealing.
I am giving this table 4 stars because of its fluidity, build quality, 326 ppi IPS display, fast browsing, smooth gaming experience, decent camera and overall feel good factor. It’s a total value for money.
