I divided this review between pros and cons.
Pros: -
Performance: - its best in class, its budget phone but you will be surprised how smooth it is when its performs, performance got even better after I update it( yes, you can update it with new MI UI system stability update right after you unboxing your device and use it for first time) .*Update - using it as my daily drive with my primary Gmail account installed almost 100 apps, no issue or bugs, some hiccups with Nova Launcher but its not device problem ho no words can fix it.
Design: - its best in class, you can feel in hand that it is premium project.* Update - applied screen protector and ipaky cover now it’s heavy but till premium look for covers and screen guard at eBay good things and perfect fit for phone.
Battery life: - As MI compare it to pixel and iPhone 7 I am not saying it’s bad but I am really getting over 5 to 6 hours of a short with high usage so its really good battery life.*Update - still getting over 5 hours of sought average 4.5 to 5.2 hours.
Screen: - it’s a 1080p IPS panel similar to redmi Note 3 but it’s more richer and colour Adobe writer on Note 4 make sure you use a screen guard on it I’ll be careful with the screen.*Update - make sure to apply a screen guard.
Connectivity: - device comes with all standard features like 4 G gold BT 4.1 WiFi at cetera no issues with jio or any other 4 G network provider.*Update - I found device Court or if you use jio coming continuously like when you watching full HD videos on YouTube, video call but later I found it’s because 4G voice app make sure you kill other apps and background during standby mode used up like greenify.
Camera: - I took some pictures on daylight and nighttime few with lowlights after using every modes and custom apps with custom settings I can say that it’s a good camera not the best camera but it’s better than most of the Other budget device and really greater than redmi 3S prime and redmi Note 3.*Update - Camera is not the best no issues while using it.
No heating issue: - I am using the device now for 15 days and I am don’t face any heating issue normally I played games(Clash of Clans and clash of Royale WeChat power and connection hungry) for like 2 our strength and it did get it up at back panel near camera and meet section but it’s got cooler down in few minutes and there was no leg all performance issue while I was playing those games.*Update - it does get hot only if you use in altamonte like watching full HD videos constantly in 4G network or play intense graphics games for longer period rest of the time it’s always stay cool.
Double tap to wake up: - you guys know already it is a good features it’s gonna be more awesome if we can double tap to make screen off also their adding some nice gesture like preceding volume button works the device volume down twice will launch camera also meaning cool gesture and available MI UI like 3 finger swipe for screenshot etc.*Update enjoy it.
Cons: -
Software: - as you guys know MI rocks with MI UI and still it is very Ram hungry, over 1.5 GB RAM always consumed by MI UI alone. Update make it white Scrabble hopefully we will see more frequent update for stability and performance from MI. Update no more updates yet only one.*Update - so hopefully nougat is on the way.
Quick charging: - it’s charging speed is limited I guess it take more than two and half hour for full charge quick charge is a must have feature Now update although it take lot of time to fully charge this device but I returned you got really good battery life for almost a day with heavy use.
Early vedict: - it’s the best budget smartphone in current market for given price range. awesome build quality premium design nice camera really good battery life and no heating issue or any kind of performance issue while doing normal task on it you guys can surely code for it I will update my review if I found any more cons or bugs on device thank you.
