XMMS - X MultiMedia System is a dream-come-true Linux based MP3 Player. I would restrict my focus to beginners who want to know more about this player and
want to use it.
Requirements - U need a Linux installation with X Windows running on it. U also need something called GTK libraries. ( If you are successfully running GNOME u have all the requirements ). Hardware - Soundcard.
XMMS seen first reminds you of Winamp-the Guru of MP3 players for windows. Yes, XMMS is metamorphised from X11Amp which was a Winamp clone for Linux. So XMMS basically has everything that Winamp 2.81 had.
- MP3, Wav, CD, Ogg vorbis capability. - Ogg Vorbis is a MP3 like open source compression standard with a similar performance as MP3.
2.Equalizer - a multiband equalizer which makes you enhance certain frequencies of the music you are hearing. Like .you can pump up the bass or increase the shrillness.
3.Playlist Management.
4.Plugin Support - Visual, Effect, General.- Plugins are pieces of software which you can add to XMMS to increase its functionality thus rendering XMMS very flexible.
Streaming audio support.
XMMS is a kind of Open Source answer to Windows software MP3 players and by far the best MP3 player for Linux. Some minor bugs have to fixed though like the unexplained crashes and pauses sometimes. Strong Recommendation.
