’’Yaadein is gonna to be a cherished memory for us’’...said Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor ..the cute n new bollywood couple..in a TV Interview show..Well Well I wondered whether Yaadein would be that delightfully perfect and super succes movie of 2001 ..
After watching it, all I can say is that it definitely doesn’t come close to a cherished memory..certainly not a super success ..Ooops!! The big names and performances that go with the movie make it a reasonably tolerable experience to watch. Also the fact goes that the audience expects a lot from a Subhash Ghai movie..I guess Ghai has mellowed down a lot..coz Yaadein is purely about family, relationships and subtle romance ....After the entertaining and thrilling movie Lagaan, Yaadein becomes a wee bit slow and boring for the audeince to digest..
The movie has a boring beginning..Jackie Shroff (looks suave) has 3 daughters ..one is Esha(Kareena Kapoor). The other two, the least said the better..Their mother(Rati agnihotri) expires leaving Jackie with his 3 teenage daughters and tons of ’Yaadein’. for him to brood and ponder and sing at a drop of a hat... Jackie is very close to Ronit (Hrithik Roshan)who is the son of his best friend. Ronit has a huge palace kind of house..he is very rich whereas Jackie is middleclass..some story...where r we heading??..
Ok So Jackie with his daughters packs off to India. Ronit follows suit. Ronit has a soft corner for Esha all along...Soon Ronit and Esha express their love for each other..due to circumstances that erupt..in a typical filmi situation..But Jackie rejects Ronits proposal..coz he had already gone ahead and fixed Ronits wedding with a certain rich girl Monishka...
Well the movie continues with a lot of twists and turns, but the climax obviously is a happy one..What keeps you glued to the screen is the lead Pair and the songs.....
After serious roles like Fiza and Mission Kashmir. We get to see a very relaxed Hrithik...here in Yaadein. He has a cool part to play! Boy! He is terrific..He makes every scene, every expression, every dance movement worth watching .. Kareena looks fresh, confident and expressive. She handles certain emotional scenes very effectively. Jackie has a major part in this movie and he has done a good job. The role suited him. The rest of the cast is average.
Music is good too. Choreography is peppy and colorful. But the title song has been repeated like over 10 times.
My advice, dont expect much when you go to watch Yaadein, maybe then you will appreciate it and some may even like the movie and have cherished memories....:-) As for me , I give it a 3 star rating for the 3 wonderful performers..(Jackie, Hrithik and Kareena)
