Kahaan....

Yahaan ... a love story ...

boasts of the fact that the film is shot in authentic locations.

The story of love between an army captain and a Kashmiri girl, it is not the first of its kind to depict the ongoing terrorism in the valley since post independence.

To the credit of Yahaan the film shows Kashmir as it is. No barrs held.

Even the songs in the film depict the scenic locations of the vaadi instead of showing dream sequences shot in the alps of Switzerland.

A unique phenomenon in Bollywood, indeed.

Because the film is shot in Kashmir, the cinematography is brilliant too. It completely complements the look of the place and the feel of the film.

That said, what is the film trying to say is what I personally had difficulty understanding.

We all know that Kashmir has been terrorized by not just Pakistani militants but also by Indian army.

A place which was once known as Heaven is not even home to people who were born and bred there.

The Hindu Kashmiris as we all know have evacuated their motherland after the terrorism in the 80s affected them beyond repair.

The people who are still living there are completely disillusioned by the situation around them.

People make a big hue and cry about a bomb blast in any other part of the world, but when it comes to Kashmir, it is an ordinary thing, because it happens every other day.

In such a situation, a captain posted on duty falls for a girl who is as picture perfect as the scenic beauty of the place.

Who doesn’t even have the liberty of wearing modern clothes and dancing around in the valley, goes ahead and falls in love and makes no apologies for the same.

Is there anything unique about their love story? Not really.

There are a few scenes which are quite well written but that apart the film fails to impress.

Out of the cast, Jimmy Shergill has given an honest performance, newcomer Minisha looks pretty, Mukesh Tiwari is menacing.

Because of all the hype around the film, I guess I expected lots more.
