Yahaan
Excellent movie. What stood out was the realism that came alive while still doing justice to the love story between Aman (Jimmy Shergill), an army general stationed in an area of Kashmir who is Hindu, and Adaa (Mannisha Lamba), a muslim girl living with her family in this area. Cinematography is of international standard.
Positives:
Story & Treatment
Music by Shantanu Moitra
Jimmy and Minnisha
Emotional scenes
Negatives:
It is to Shoojits credit that he was able to do what many directors were not able to do when tackling an issue like Kashmir, he stood to his script, concentrated on the love story while seemlessly integrating the problems of the environment into it, and didnt falter when it came to adding commercial elements into it.
As such, once the movie is over, people can tell it is a powerful film made with conviction, and that it truly is a hidden gem amongst the best of indian films in 2005.
Overall easily one of the best films of the year, also establishing Shoojit Sircar and Shantanu Moitra as industry powerhouses.
