Fz after 500km

Hello, this is my second review. After completing 500km, mostly at 45-50km speed, I am truly impressed . The service personal have adviced not to exceed speeds of 50km/hr till first service. I have heeded that since, it is essential for the engine and the components to settle down for long use. I shall evaluate on the pluses and negatives.

Positives

  1. The bike feels very smooth and stable. Just 2 seconds on pressing the start, even without choke starts it even on rainy mornings. So bye, kick start.

  2. The suspension is excellent. The weight and centre of gravity are all great such that you won’t feel you are riding a bike bike.

  3. The gear shifts are smooth and just take a flick. The gear ratios are awesome. I drive mostly in 5th gear in(70%highway and 30%city conditions.) The bike starts from 5th gear in 25km/hr without knocking. The bike hasn’t gone off any single time.

  4. Ride is very comfortable(only for the rider). The back seat is rough after around 10km of travel.

  5. The handle bar position is great for long drives. You don’t get any pain even after riding for 1 hour continuously.

  6. The pickup is very good, I usually overtake all bikes in a fraction of a second.

  7. Braking is excellent, and there is no need for a back disc brake. The front disc is efficient and not too tight.

  8. Headlights are good but the position is more straight, than down.

  9. Finally the mileage, the mileage obtained for the very first litre of petrol in the bike was 44kmpl.

After 200km, the mileage was 48.25kmpl and now after 500km, its 52kmpl. Hope to improve it upto 58kmpl after the first service. I think 58 is the record mileage for fz in city. I use normal petrol. Use minimal of clutch and drive at 45-50km/hr at 3500rpm for maximum mileage.

Consequently the negatives.

  1. The first negative is the back seat. Yamaha created a sports bike but could have improved upon the back seat just like the unicorn or gs 150. The position of footrests is also not good. It creates a strain for long distance. The dress guard is also not good.

  2. I feel Yamaha could have made tuning favourable for more mileage and a bit less power, but still I am told that anything above 50 is great for a Yamaha fz.

  3. The back portion gets muddy everytime I take the bike for a ride. The tyre guard could have been a bit lower. The pillion rider gets most of the dust.

  4. The number plate position could have been fixed on top of the wheel . The present position dampens the style of the front lamp.

  5. The horn is feeble. Such a low sound for a big bike. Also I am not satisfied with the instrument cluster. It’s very small atleast the tachometer could be analog. Also since the bike mainly uses battery power, the battery charge indicator was a must.

Overall it’s a great bike and I would recommend it to

  1. Anyone driving in the city

  2. Want more power and pickup plus mileage 50

  3. Stylish and comfortable ride and stability.

Also try to buy the bike in festive seasons, deepavali, Christmas when offers are prevalent. I got the bike under the student s discount of rs. 3000. Actually the bike doesn’t have to cost 72300. A price tag of around 69000 could have been more perfect.
