Mr. Head Turner Yamaha FZ16

Being a bike enthusiast is no easy job. One remains unsteady throughout his life always looking for excellence.

The mind of the enthusiast is hence always in a turmoil.Having seen a Fz16 I felt attracted deep down my heart. As soon as time permitted my feet drove me to the show room where I took a TD.

Being used to a Unicorn I had to get adjusted to the gear pedal of the FZ, which is a single pedal, unlike the bipedal of other bikes. I liked the torque, handling and brakes. So I sold off my Unicorn which was painful though and became an owner of the FZ.

I am now in the 1200 km range and I am proud that I took a correct decision.Allow me share with you the emotional and technical experience. It goes without saying that you have to get adjusted to your new horse. The FZ is no different , its seating style needs to get adjusted to initially .

Your weight gets distributed equally between your back and the hands resting on the handle. This makes long rides smoother for your back but may cause tingling in your hands initially. So those who want to go for the FZ , should not try long distance rides immediately.Let me remind you that the FZ has no "KICK START", its all at the battery. The switches are ergonomically placed .

The amber backlit tacho is fully digital with a good display of odometer, tripmeter, rpm , speed and a fuel gauge. The brake is properly placed and the mono pedal gear shift is good for fast acceleration .The bike is torquey and gear shifts are minimal.

The brakes are good but a rear disc could have made a better impact. The ride quality is good and you can adjust the rear mono shock for your needs.Night riding is augmented with strong halogen lights which do not dim with a fall in the rpm .The horn is strong enough to get you attention from the rickshaws.Fuel consumption has not been checked by but I feel it’s not a very fuel thirsty engine.

Now for the looks of FZ.Looks are subjective, though we agree to many things in common. We all will agree that Bipasha and Shilpa are both VERY sexy. When it comes to who is more sexy, subjective feelings start pouring in.We will agree that this is a VERY handsome bike with masculine TUBELESS tires a hunky exhaust, the good body styling and a bold attitude statement the engine makes when fired.

To be on the subjective side I find no other existing Indian bike coming any close to the FZ in the "LOOKS" department.OVERALL:This bike is value for money, has a good responsive torquey engine, good ride quality, good after sales service and is a HEAD TURNER...all bundled in a single package. Any one going of this bike is going to feel like a winner and is going to stand out in the crowd. What I dont like in this bike? The rear view mirrors need good arrangement, as the rear visibility is not that good. The front number plate spoils the frontal show and needs to be thought over.
