My Glady RS - review updated (2)

Bought the Yamaha Gladiator RS model on 06/06/09.There were so many people who starred on the glady. Onida caption goes well here. Owner’s pride, Neighbors envy.

Actually, 2 months back I pre-booked Unicorn and was waiting to get my turn for it. But all these time I was confused with glady or Unicorn. I decided to be different and went for Glady. I decided not to go more than 65 kms. To drive at 65 kms there is not much difference between glady or unicorn. I want to be responsible to my family and society.

Coming to review. Starting, riding, handling are good. But, along with pillion there is limited pulling power in lower speeds. Need toshift to 1st gear quickly. Initially, gear changing and finding neutral was difficult. But getting used to it.

The horn sound level and the lights are adequate to me. Very rarely I use the horn(read responsible to society here again:). But Ikeep forgetting to switch off the indicator. Buzzer sound is different and doesn’t alert me to switch off in busy roads.

The seats are comfortable. Planning to put a seat cover. The other thing I like about the seat is, my wife often tries to maintain some space between us while riding.(read responsible to society again:).The riding position is also good. No back pain experienced so far.

The only concern I have now is that, when I turn off the engine, there is a small noise coming from engine(like tuk sound). Not sure whether every one gets this.

Went to a local mechanic to fix the front number plate. He said yamaha bikes are maintenance free bikes. He never saw any yamaha bikes in any repair shops. This includescrux, libero as well. That I thought was a good attestation. This could be because Yamaha owners worry about service and spares. So we maintain bike well.

Right now maintaining 3000 RPM with max speed of 40-45 kmph. Planning to do this for 1000 kms.

Though the bike looks sporty, I always get the impression that this is a perfect executive commuter bike which suits me.

Will update the bike status after couple of services.

After first service:

Gear shifting is smoother initially. I did ask the mechanic about the small noise coming from engine(like tuk sound), he said all the self start bikeswill have it.

The YamaLube Engine oil costs Rs. 222 /-. Wow that is very costly. Is that the normal price for all brands?

During windy times, I feel that the bike is going out of my control. It is like a drag. My colleague who owns a 2000 YBX said he feels the same way in his bike.Looks like bike is underweight to withstand moderate winds. Does everyone feel this? And is this common with all 125cc bikes?

Yesterday, chennai corporation was laying road near my house. So they ripped the top layer of existing road to put the new one. When I went in that way, I felt like I’mgonna fall. I felt very nervous driving in that road. Felt like there is no grip and bike just went in zig zag way. Yamaha should consider having a bigger tyre for this bike.

Reached 900+ kms and maintaining 45 kmph

One question I have is, I don’t raise the throttle very much, I do the smooth acceleration and maintain a speed limit of 45. Will this affect the pickup of the bike after

some days?
