Libero-An Alien Luking Yamie

Hi to all the Yamie Lovers n Fans!

Well I am also one of the yamaha fans out there like u all.So we r here to talk about this Yamie which is called the NO SAMJHAUTA BIKE. we can say about that when it is about 2-3 years old.

I am having this Yamaha Libero the oldest model {Golden Color} with those black strips n LIBERO written on the fuel tank with Blue.I have done with it 25000kms+ and it is a March’03 model. So it has done with me about more than 4 n half years.

MILEAGE:

Well it gives me a gud mileage of around 55-62 km/l. This wide range as my driving varies on my moods.Occasionaly I may b a very rash rider driving like and of the motogp riders, just that dont hav a bike as powerful than theirs.Ha Ha Ha.

I usually drive my bike at around 40-45 km/h mark.and I am gentle on the throttle also.but somehow I dunno why now after this yamie is not giving me a gud mileage.rather I used to get a mileage of 48-52 km/l for about sum long time.I was very frustated about this thing.I also got it checked from various places but in vain.Certainly Yamaha engines are always long lasting for more than 5 yrs. But this one is not that kind.b’coz of my frustratiom I used to drive it harsh too.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE:

So what about making this yamie revving high on straight road. I am happy about its performance on this front.I once decided to this yamaha’s drifting capacity on the marine drive in Lucknow, which is a 1 n half km stretch long straight road. All bike enthusiasts cum here to test run their engines.

Well i decided to revv this engine to its fullest.

I started the engine and mind u its kick is very gentle.one kick this engine below me is fired up.and u cant even hear the engine sound if u dont make that extra effort to hear it.so here we go.i revved it up to 8500 rpm on the first gear. The speed I cud achieve was 20 km/h.then to the 2nd.revved it to about 8000 rpm, speed on speedo was 35 km/h.now to the third and this time around I went to revv it to its fullest.Tacho touched 8000 rpm and then it was about 55 km/h.it made a lot of noise then I decided to shift it to 4th.now I cud only reach a top speed of around 85 km/h as shown on the speedo.

well then I got to a halt after this fantastic drift. Believe me u cant get a performance on any other 100 cc bike like this.after all this the engine was still humming and the bike was gliding as I cruised at a gentle speed 45km/h back to my home.QUIET ADRENALINE RAISING EXPERIENCE ON A 100 CC(actually a 106 cc engine).

COMFORT:

This yamie has the best seating among all its competitors. But there is a point. It is not at all a comfort when u hav to move around for abt more than 50 kms.Not at least on my Yamie. For shorter it is a gem of a bike to move around pottering in the city at 40-50km/h mark.Front shockers are great, Telescopic ones but the rear ones are not so gud.If u hav to ride for about 45kms+ at a stretch with a pillion, then it is a spine bursting affair.U will hav a great sore bums after that ride.

HANDLING:

Well on the handling front this bike is best in the class.i hav zipped zapped nd zoomed in n out of the traffic. Its also handles all the corners very well.its very stable machine .u can without any fear leave off ur hands of the handle n still it wud glide.Great handling.U can make a 180 rite when u want.I have also tried one wheeling on this one too.but not much cud be done only the first wheel raises for a while n then back on earth.May b this is b’coz of low engine capacity and not much thrust behind it.

Anyways I am glad to lift my hands off it when I am cruising or gliding around.the barking is also on the better half. not much to comment on this but they r much better than the rest in its class.

LOOKS:

well we all know why this specific Yamie failed in the Indian market.Ya sure u got it rite. Its Front fairing which reminds us of any alien face or may be sum may compare it it to the tip of the cat’s face.Me for sure dont like its front fairing. And many of u who dont know about its failure second cause. It was also b’coz of the company giving a very thin rear tyre.but som may say it has nuthing to do with its failure.but I personally believe that a rest gud n heavy luking bike, although with a weaker engine, cud hav done away better with its headlight and rear tyre.rest it looks stunning than its all other 100 cc counterparts.

MAINTAINENCE:

We all know that yamaha engines r no doubt vry robust n reliable.this truly is the trademark of all the yamahas.so same goes with this Yamie too.but for now I hav started to experience some problems like the bike is not as smooth as it used to be earlier on.now whenever I change my gears a feel a click sound which is much louder than normal.I get it serviced regularly, but for some reason its performance has deteriorated a lot.one more thing, the chain gets loose very often and whenever I m pulling it from third gear an fourth gear it makes a ghattar ghattar sound.i knew that it got loose n hav shown it the yamaha experts.they hav tightened it but again after some time it starts getting loose n making those weird sounds.there is not much to spend on the engine though now its performance is going down n down miles after miles.

PARTS N SPARES:

Te yamaha parts as available in lucknow are solely those of the RX-100’s or or the older versions b4 the Crux-series n Libero.ya small parts are available but for the other parts which are a bit expensive are not available neither at the showroom-service center nor the local market which has a genuine yamaha dealer namely Ahuja Sales. If one has accidently broken the headlight or hud or mud guard , etc.... then he has nothing to do but wait helplessly on the discretion of the yamaha dealers or just ride their bikes in the same tottered condition. It also takes a lot of time for the parts to come though our way.

SERVICES N RESALEABILITY:

Well we can not blame the service center for this one.they have gud trained mechanics here who take care of the vehicle on their sole responsibilty rather than the service center head.but they charge you extra for that.Poor customer has do shed away those extra bucks out of his pocket. But the service centers are very few n the dealers which were present have been closed down here. Now there are only two dealers left in the city.

And what to say of resaleability!!!! :-((

the second hand bike dealers dont want to invest there money on this YAMIE.when asked why they say, "We cant even sell this bike, noone ever comes here asking for a 2nd hand Libero."They give such price offers that u tend to run away frm them.Iam getting only 11-12Ks for my bike though my bike is in very good condition. They just refuse to buy it from u.

I luckily found a dealer who is ready to give me 15K for this 2003 model.
