Little big racer

Alright, I’ll be honest about this one. I do not own one of these, even though it’s a good bike.

Here’s why: I’m too tall for this thing, at 6’2’’ there is no way I can fit on this motorcycle. I recently took the test ride at the nearby Yamaha showroom, which by the way was very polite and efficient with all the information.

The first impressions of a tall person:

  • The bike feels small, but nothing too serious.

  • You need to sit all the way back on the seat to even be able to operate the gear lever.

  • Upshift and downshift required me to lift my foot of the footrest.

  • Low end power is nearly absent, to get moving you need to rev quite a bit.

  • Needs a bigger engine (wait, that’s just wishful thinking, 150cc on this one does just fine.)

Now for the good bits:

  • Handling is most likely the best you can get.

  • Brakes are so powerful it will probably stop on a rupee coin.

  • Once you get in the power band of the engine, it flies.

  • Handling is great (did I already say that?)

  • Looks are great for a bike this size.

  • Good power from a 150cc engine, nice exhaust note.

  • Technically advanced.

Doubts:

  • High technology and technician training levels. Can Yamaha technicians keep these things going?

So here’s the tall persons verdict:

Buy, if you have the money, want high technology and amazing handling.

Avoid, if you’re taller then about 5’11’’, you will find it highly uncomfortable.
