Stylish looking scooter...

Today I’m reviewing the Yamaha Ray ZR, a more bulkier and beefed up version of the compact and light weight Ray Z moto scooter. Yamaha call it the next generation real boys scooter. Yamaha has realised that all the action is happening.

The Fascino is already a huge hit with its classic retro look and features the blue core technology that promises the awesome performance and great mileage.

There is no doubt the Ray ZR looks sleek and featuristic. There are lots of cuts and creases all over the body. It is surely an attention graber for sure. It is clearly evidented that this scooter is targeted to the male riders. Also this is the first time Yamaha is offering optional front disc in its scooters. Unfortunetly the disc brake variant is unavailable currently at the dealers.

The desogn looks superb. The black meter visor looks radical and new age. The headlamp is neatly embedded in the front with proper turn indicators. The contrast colors giving the scooter a premuim look from upfront. Fit and finish and build qaulity is outstanding as always. Moving to the profile, the scooter looks completely sharp and sporty. The balck wheel wheels, dual tone paint scheme, superb body graphics shows that this scooter is totally a sporty scooter. The tail lamp cluster is nice and prominent and is neatly laid out. The set appears to be of excellent quality and offers adequate room for the pillion rider as well as the pillion. The floor board is heavily worked on so as the carved out front end of the scooter just to offer that extra bit of leg room. The switches are of good quality but we don’t get a highbeam flasher and there is no parking brake also. Looking at the instrument cluster, we get a basic all analog setup. This is the only scooter from Yamaha which has a key shutter. It has the same 113 cc engine which was found on the fascino and other Yamaha scooters. The Ray features Yamaha Blue Core technology that promises improved combustion and efficiency which results in better performance without having to compromise on fuel efficiency. With its bigger and better body design, the Ray looks more stable at higher speeds. The engine is nice and smooth and offers great pickup. The brakes are decent enough and the suspensions too are quiet decent. It is not too stiff nor too soft. It does a decent job while riding through rough patches on the road. Underseat storage is 21 litres which is more than sufficient. The scooter does come with tube less tyres. The regular variant comes with two color options: blue and red. Mileage claim for this scooter is 66 kmpl.
