Yamha RX 100

In the mid 80s, motorcycle enthusiasts who loved performance bikes, their first preference was the yamaha RX-100. The light weight motorcycle was nothing short of a revolution in the indian two wheeler industry in the period of 1985-1996. Yamaha launched RX 100 in 1985 in india after RD 350 was not successful in market. The motorcycle was one of the most reliable, small displacement bike at that time. The engine of the bike delivers such raw power that racers used it on dirt aand drag races as well. Known for its performance, the RX 100 was powered by a 98cc, two stroke, air cooled engine which produces 11BHP of power at 7500rpm and peak torque of 10.39 Nm at 6500rpm. The motor was mated to 4 speed transmission stopping power was provided by 130mm drum brakes at both the ends. As for the suspension system, telescopic forks at front and a swing arm at rear did the job. Due to its light weight it gave highter efficincy and could easily do 0-60 kmph in 7.5 seconds. The kerb weight of the bike was 103 kg and had a fuel tank capacity of 10.5 litres. In terms of dimensions the bike measured 1965 mm in length, 740mm in width, 1050mm in height and the wheelbase was 1240mm. The seat height of the bike was 765mm. The RX100 available in three colours Red, Silver and Blue and was available at a price of Rs 19, 764(on-road). The Yamaha RX 100 was known for its straight design, which had the fuel tank and seat aligned on the same level. The seat was kept straight in order to provide the most comfortable ride possible at the time of its launch. Use of chrome was in fashion at that time and both the front and rear mudguards were fully chromed. The Yamaha and RX 100 badge was also chrome plated. The instrument console seems to be the worst part of the bike, designed oddly and divided into three portions. On the extreme left the high beam indication and the neutral indication. Also it had the left turn light whereas the right turn light was in the portion at the extreme right. The center had a speedometer with an odometer placed inside it. The biggest plus point for the RX 100 was its performance. It had a 98ccm, 2 stroke engine, being air cooled it produced 11 BHP 7500 rpm and 10.39 NM 6500rpm. The power production of the bike was massive and it was tagged as the best performer in the 100cc segment at its time. Touching the 100 Kmph mark was an achievement for the little blaster. The braking was in the hands of 1300mm drum brakes, both for the front and the rear. The front suspension was the telescopic forks whereas the rear used swing arm type for the suspension work. It used a set of 18 inch tyres and the lightweight body design helped in more acceleration and higher fuel efficiency. It returned nearly 40 kmpl. It was available in 3 shades namely Red, Blue and silver. The approvimate on Road price of yamaha Rx 100 was INR 19764 in 1989. Performance was all the motorcycle was about. It may be for higher speeds of quick accelerations, the weight of the bike favoured everything and made it one of the most successful bikes in india.
