The ULTIMATE Machine

This is my first review in mouthshut.com. I am a proud owner of RX 135 for the past 6 years.I bought this bike at a time when pulsar had just taken its birth and RX 135 was the most sought after bike by the college goers. I have never regretted my decision and I have fully enjoyed the rides that I had on it. Mine is a stock bike, I have not modified any bit of it except for the tyres. I have done around 25k kms on it. It is one of the best two stroke bikes.

Pickup : I have driven pulsar(150 and 180), CBZ(old one), Unicorn, Apache RTR and Hunk. No bike matches the raw power and pickup of the RXs. Its pickup in 1st and 2nd gears is just amazing. One has to experience it to feel it. You can completely trust on it while overtaking. Just a gentle turn on the throttle and you will hear a roaring sound and the bike reaches 60 in no time.

Looks : Though it doesnt have the muscular looks of the pulsar or hunk it doesnt look bad at all. It is sleek and sexy. You can do any kind of modifications to it and the bike will still look good.

Handling : It is one of the most easiest bikes to handle. I have not faced any problems while taking sharp turns or on straight lines or mud roads. It can easily cut through the traffic bcoz of its light body. It is the best bike for rough handling.I have crossed 100 kmph many times and touched a max of 115 kmph and I did not feel any vibrations.

Mileage : It gives a decent mileage of 32 kmpl in city conditions. It used to give 38 kmpl initially with the stock tyres. Cant expect more from a two stroke bike.

Braking : It doesnt have the disc brakes that the modern bikes come with. So had to be little careful while braking in sand or when braking suddenly at more than 60 kmph as it used to slip. Now that I have replaced the stock tyres with fatter MRF ones I have no problems now.

Maintainence : It is a low cost maintainence bike. I have not visited any mechanic shop with problems except for servicing which I do every 3 months. Its engine and gearbox have the longest life compared to other bikes. Even today a 20 year old RX 100 and a 10 year old RX 135 gives a tough competition to the apaches, pulsars and CBZs.

Overall a good bike if you dont mind the mileage and want to set the streets on fire.

After the stopping of two stroke bikes in India had yamaha come up with a 4 stroke version of RX 135 or RXZ instead of liberos, cruxs I am sure we wouldnt have seen so much of pulsars. Though the new yzf r15 looks promising it is not a peoples’ bike. It is way too costly for the middle class people of India to go for it. Price of allmost double that of other 150 cc bikes is not reasonable whatever may be the technologies invovled in it.

Recently I had gone to a showroom to have a feel of it. Worst thing was that he didnt even allow me to take a test ride. He said that around 250 units of it have been sold after nearly a month since its launch. I dont think yamaha will get the expected profit out of it.

Hoping that atleast FZ 150 will be a big hit and reasonably priced so that yamahas will rule the Indian roads once again.

Regards,

Kiran.
