I am proud owner of Yamaha SS 125(Blue Color). This is my first review in mouth shut, after riding 3500+ kms in my SS 125 bought in Sep-2010 for Rs.57, 500 (including registration) in Coimbatore.
I have finalized to get 125 cc bike. But at first I was really confused choosing a better bike; and I searched a lot and finalized Honda Shine and Yamaha SS125. After reading several reviews about shine and its vibration problem + 3 to 4 months waiting period + it’s overprice, I have selected Yamaha SS 125 for its sporty look and impressive design and my interest towards Yamaha (RX100).
Comfort:*
I don’t know much about bikes but my test drive with SS 125 impressed me a lot. It provides you wonderful handling and comfort which makes u feel like a Legend. YES! YAMAHA. It provides better handling and comfort and you feel like riding a 150cc bike. It is very much comfortable for the pillion rider due to its big seat. Whoever, choosing a bike please give more importance to comfort and handling.
Ride:*
SS 125 is good to ride in city traffic. But, you feel better when enjoying long rides with the 5th gear. When you crossed 60 km\hr speed u feel the smooth ride. I crossed 80 km\hr several times and enjoyed my ride. Speed ratio: 2nd Gear – up to 20 Km\hr, 3rd – 20 to 30 km\hr, 4th Gear – 30 to 40 km\hr and 5th Gear – 40+ km\hr. I have travelled several times 100 km trip and I feel so comfortable and strain-less feel.
Top Speed:*
I have reached a top speed of 97 km\hr in NH 209. But, to attain the topmost speed it takes some time to reach after crossing 90 km\hr. And as per the reviews I come to know that we can reach top speed of 105 to 110 km\hr.
Design:*
Sporty look with attractive muffler and engine crawl. Wherever you go some people enquire about your bike model and price due to its impressive look.
Mileage:*
City: Average 50 KMPL
Highway: 55+ KMPL
Comparison:*
SS 125 is the TRUE-GLADIATOR! Don’t compare your SS125 with Honda Shine, Suzuki Slingshot, HH Glamour, TVS Flame and Bajaj Patina. SS 125 is not only just commuter like the above listed bikes; SS 125 is a combo of Commuter + Performer. Since we have better competitor to compare. They are Honda Stunner and Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS. Their brief comparison summary is,
Pulsar 135 LS Honda Stunner Yamaha SS 125
Looks 4 5 4
Performance 5 3.5 4
Comfort and Handling 4 4 4.5
Value for Money 3.5 4 4.5
Total(Out of 20) 16.5 16.5 17
The final results show how SS 125 is far better than its competitors. The detailed comparison is available in the following link:

Pros:*
Comfort and smooth Handling Sporty Look
Big bike feel - U feel like riding a 150cc bike
Cons:*
Tyre Grip or Size may be improved. In rainy condition, muds are thrown in legs.
Better Mud guard required.
Brightness of the front light is not enough.
So, I guess small ’cons’ for this bike won’t really matter for all the good features it has.
SS125 Suitable for,
Person willing to travel some long distance
Expecting average 50 to 55 kmpl mileage
Person expecting so comfort and cool bike
Person expecting comfortable pillion seat.
SS125 not suitable for,
Always riding only within City traffic
Person who is expecting more mileage figures.
Thanks for Mouthshut, which provides great guidance for choosing my bike. All the above details are my personal opinion.
