Hi I bought Yamaha SZR on Aug 11 2011. I posted my review on Sep 2 2011. Now I am updating review with details of bike with one month experience.
Bike has same platform as Yamaha FZ 150 cc leader bike. Bike has stylish sporty aerodynamic design. Bike design is not for a person of less than 5’8" height with saddle height of 802 mm. Side cover and wiser etc are made of poly propylene which are flexible and can not be easily cracked and bike has plastic chain cover. Bike has analogue speedometer, fuel meter and RPM meter but lack of trip meter, flash switch and parking lights. Plastic panels of fuel tank looks something odd but not bad.
Handling of bike is as per Yamaha reputation. Great handling; driving feels very light and smooth and gear shifting is also very smooth and easy. best of Indian city riding. 245 mm front disc brakes are very good but rear brakes need improvement. Few days ago I had to take sudden brakes at the speed of 75 km/h; bike stopped easily with any skidding or any other handling problem. Bike has long and perfect seat not like other sports bikes which have very narrow seat for pillion. I driven 250 kms on 30 Aug but did not feel any fatigue it proves its comfort and handling.
Bike has 153 cc 12.1 ps/7500 rpm engine. FZ engine with less power which is less that other sports bike but it has powerful 12.8 nm torque on 4500 rpm which gives very good performance in low to mid speed range. I have driven 90km/h without any vibration. Yamaha provides 5 year/75000 km warranty. I have driven 1300 km and bike mileage is 40 kmpl which is less than expected. I asked for mileage to service center they answered me mileage will be set after third service.
Now price factor, Yamaha SZR is cheapest bike in 150 cc segment with disc brake and self start after Bajaj Discover 144 cc but quality of bike is not cheaper than other bikes. Ex showroom price is 56000 in Haryana. You have to pay less for registration also as registration charges are 4% for above 60000 price bikes. A 150 cc bike in price of 125/135 cc bike with great performance.
Overall verdict Yamaha SZR is perfect commuter+sports bike with great performance in less than expected price.
