I bought my YBX in May 2000 and lost it in Nov 2003. Guess some folks saw value in stealing a 3 year old Yamaha.
A 4 stroke, 12 BHP, 125 CC bike cost me Rs. 47000+ and delivered the 50 kmpl as promised. Day after day for the 3 years I had it. Never fluctuating (please read on..).
This is when the clutch was functioning properly. After about a year, the clutch starting becoming loose. Visit the service station, they tighten it and then visit is required again the next month. After a year of clutch tightening, the mechanic declared the clutch needed replacement and asked 700/- for the clutch plate alone (Patny Motors, Secunderabad is a service station of Yamaha).
Now I am a slow and steady rider believing in extracting mileage, never exceeding 50 kmph, so how come the clutch plate gets damaged? or was it foul-play? When the clutch plate wasnt set right, the mileage dropped to 30-35 kmpl.
Was quite happy with the bike and enjoyed it while it lasted. Now, the YBX comes out as too expensive when compared to other bikes available in the market. And Mr. Bushs repeated War against Terror have ensured that more and more Indians get mileage savvy...so my new bike gotta give 50 kmpl for lower price.
