Dr. Padmini Valluri:The infertity treatment

Let me explain my own experience with Yashoda hospitals (Secundrabad). And I will leave it to you to take the call -whether to rest your faith on the hospital or not. I was taking treatment for delay-in pregnancy-issue in the hospital for over 10 months. The doctor who treated me was "Ms. Padmini Valluri, Gynaecologist" - looked to me matured, motherly, and knowledgeable in the beginning. I donot mean anyway to undervalue any of those feats now. But it took over 8 months for me to understand this:

  1. The doctor was paying very little attenion to individual cases (less than 5min in most visits). Only the junior doctors (the Dr. is always surrounded by 4/5 of the junior Drs) comes and touch patients -I’ll talk about the kind of work they do by touching as a separate point down.

  2. Dr. Padmini madam will not explain anything about her treatment and the direction she heads. What she does not understand is this: The patient and the family is also part of the treatment and process so that it is more important that the patient understands the treatment well and dispels the fear she may have.

  3. The kind of capacity the hospital proclaims it has (speciality et al), the money for the consultation is not very high (If I remember right, I used to pay Rs.150/- and last few times it was increased to Rs.250/-). That is not bad - okay. But the point is the time we spend waiting for the doctor in the morning. It takes 2 hours per visit and think about point (1) above, in conjunction with this.

  4. Most people who come for treatment are working or in service. Such a speciality hospital does not have any mechanism to get the fixed time appointment facility - the patient and the care taker have to leave the job and wait for hours together in the waiting hall -no appointment by remote means (neither via phone, email, or else). One has to go in the morning - no matter where you’re coming from - and get the token and wait.

  5. Since in the day#1, the junior doctors will press/squeeze the breast to get the tear out of the eyes. This is a fixed treatment. God knows what they were trying to figure out by doing that

  6. There is no sequence/order followed as far as the treatment goes - you might wonder how I know what is the right sequence. yes, I learnt that from "Dr. Padma" from "Rama Institute of fertility" -they educate each patient on day#1 only. What sequence of tests done/to-be done, etc (blood, urine, torch, semen, morphic/form/structual, carvic, etc. I did learn first time the process of how the fertility happens -The ivory, Fellopian tube, ovary, etc. The point is this: either the doctor in Yasodha does not know the sequence of testing and treatment or does care about the people.

  7. This is similar to (6), but it does question the capacity of doing tests. I underwent HSG there. The test result did show there was some block in Fallopian tube. Doctor did not mention anything about that. She continued with the treatment ignoring that point -LUPI HSG injection, etc. Later when we consulted with other gynaecologists, they were wondering and we realized how ignoran or unaware of what was going around us.

  8. Although I said (3) above, the cost of consultation was less. At one point in our treatment, we were asked to undergo Laproscopy. And it was shocking to know that the cost of treatment said was 70, 000/- plus medicine. Then I decided it was something that I cannot really afford. So, we were forced to look for other hospitals. That is how we landed in ’Rama institute’, Ameerpet.

You might be surprised to know that the same treatment costed here Rs.5100 + 750 for medicine. i.e., less than 10% of yashoda hospital. They take care of patients amazingly, no money motivation, no fear about the treatment (it is obvious tha everyone has the fear esp., while thinking of taking this treatment), the feeling of extraordinary comfort, etc.

Anyways, I’m not holding flag for ’Rama institute’. However, the whole intention behind my effort is to better educate people those who are today like us an one year ago -lots of frustration, strong feelings, etc. Let me finish by saying this: God may bless Dr. Rama and her great doctors like Dr. Padma live long and continue to get engaged in the service for long... esp., not turning to the commercial path like most others!!!!
