Id been to yercaud, last month (June 9th -11th), and it was a pleasant experience.
We started from chennai to salem, via the bangalore highway, and the roads were superb. It was a car travel, and I had elders as well as my kid. The climate was also pleasant, and it was not so hot, as we thought itd be.
We reached Salem in 6hrs, with 2, 3 breaks in between, and ascended the Yercaud mountain in another 30 minutes max. The climate was good, and we stayed at the The Shevaroys , which was pretty nearby the lake.
The tariffs were a bit mucsh though. since you dont need A/C in yercaud, a non a/c room for Rs.1200 was a bit much, but the rooms were ok. But the hospitality was far from better. You had to make everything clear atleast twice, before you got what you needed.
But the good thing was the rooms that were a bit more costlier were cottages, and I think they were worth the money, with the looks, and with their serene ambience. yup, the resort is wuite big, which offers you a big walk around their plantation (coffee ..i believe), a kids park with ducks ....and fruit trees. It was lush green , once needs to accept it.
The other advantage , again, is that the proximity for the places of interest. The resort was in the heart of mountains, so, you might reahc the places of interest like Pagoda point, Ladys seat, Childrens Seat (which is actually in Rose Garden.....this is a lovely place to visit), Shevarayan Temple (the highest place in mountain...too cold in June itself), Raja Rajeswari Temple.
While returning from Pagoda point , theres an alternate way, which takes you to Annamalaiar temple, but the same road may take you to a different hair pin bended raods, and might lead you to Salem back again. This is an alternate route to Salem. try this if you have your own car. The road and the mountain view would be breath-taking.
Once could see all the places in 1 day itself. But the good thing about yercaud is , it would give you peace from traffic, dust, smoke, and from hectic city life. Its , again, not completely commercialised like Ooty or Kodiakanal.
If youd love silence, stillness in nature, and ofcourse cool, calm, clean weather, then pack your bags to Yercaud.
