YO EXL - Excellent money saver

I purchased my YO EXL last Dec (2011) in Chennai. Its almost 1 year now and I am pretty happy and proud about my decision to purchase YO EXL. Pros: 1 - Attractive design. Mettallic colour. Looks similar to Activa. 2 - Absolutely zero maintainance till now except for couple of tyre punctures. 3 - Decent mileage. Runs maximum 55 Km in a single charge in power mode (speed of 50-55km/hr) along with pillion rider. 4. 0% pollution 5. In emergency situations, 1 hour charge will make the bike run for about 10-15 Km.


Enough to reach home. 6. Excellent storage space. 7. Option of economy mode ( max speed 35km/hr) and power mode (55 km/hr) 8. Can take heavy load with speed of 40 km/hr. Have tried triples (85 kg*3 = 255kg) several times. 9. Have driven 15000+ kms in 1 less than one year. Still battery gives mileage of 45 km per charge which is pretty sufficient for me. To and fro to office = 35 Km. 10. Electricity charge per month = 2.5 units per day * 30= 45 units = Rs.180 (based on Rs4 per unit). On an average if you ride 1200 Km per month. YO EXL maintainance cost = Rs.180-200 max. while for petrol driven bike it would be, (1200km/45 mileage) * Rs.70 = Rs.1866 + Rs.300 (engine Oil) + other wear and tear expenses (chain sprocket etc) which will total around Rs. 2300 11. Minimum savings of Rs.2000 per  month. Even if you calculate Rs.13500 for the battery to be replaced after 1.5 years, this would run very cheap. 12. Costs around Rs.48000 in Chennai after subsidy. 13. Warranty coverage is good. 1 year for battery and 3 years for motor and controller. 14. Powerful lights.


Cons: 1. Speed is limited to 55km. Not ideal for the speedy.. 2. Need to be bit calculative on the distance to ride. Else might get stuck somewhere without charge. Not suitable for marketing people or people who travel  a lot. 3. Is good for people whose commutaion is limited to 50 - 60 km per day. I believe that should be pretty decent mileage for office goers residing within 20-25 km range. 4. The overall quality of the body can be improved. The plastic used doesn’t last long. 5. Need to have charging point at the parking premise. 6. Battery would have to be replaced early ( even before 1.5 years) if it is not utilized to the fullest on regular basis. 7. The height of the handle bar is bit high for a normal person. Need to improve ergonomics. This can cause back pain for few. 8. No resale value. People hesitate to buy this second hand. Overall I feel this is a good scooter for me. I have modified the seat with extra cusion for my own comfort. I am happy I have not spent a single rupee for petrol for the last 1 year. I use my YO EXL daily to commute to office.


Fortunately, we have a battery operated vehicle charging point in our Chennai Wipro campus. This makes me confident to ride more distance before I reach office. for example I can travel for around 50 km and then charge my vehicle in office so that it would be ready for my return commute to home. considering this facility, my cost of vehicle is recoverd in 2 years and even if I replace the battery fro Rs.14000 after 2 years, it is still cheap.
