Just day before yesterday I had the chance of eating out at the Zaffran restaurant near Crawford market and the food was so good that I wanted to share the experience with all of you.
This restaurant is located in the Fort area just before the Mahatma Phule market. For those arriving from the northern and other parts of Mumbai, you can turn right from the signal after you alight from the JJ flyover. The place is quite crowded and parking here is a bit of a problem sometimes, so its convenient if you have a driver to wait on.
The restaurant is well maintained, neat and clean and quite comfortable. The ambience is just right for gorging on a delicious meal. The menu is an assortment of vegetarian and non vegetarian cuisines, and we tried only the non vegetarian items.
We did not try out any soups, but landed on the main course as it was already late for lunch. We ordered a plate of gosht tikka which arrived soon enough. Believe me the item was a delight for the taste buds. The mutton had been perfectly marinated and cooked uniformly after being layered by a paste of spices very gently yet aromatic.
The masala raan which we ordered was huge enough for 4 people, so we got half of it packed. Again the tender mutton was cooked perfectly in a rich and spicy gravy which was packed with calories. Despite high calorific and spicy values, the items were gentle on the stomach and easy to digest.
For dessert we had Khubani ka meetha which is the modification of a traditional Kashmiri dish of apricots. In this case the apricot syrup was served with an icecream which was delicious.
Finally we came out quite satiated and content. The food quality at Zaffran is excellent and the items are very reasonably priced and good value for money, reasons enough for checking it out. Am I right?
