OK, after dealing with in2cable for over 1 year I had enough of their nonsense and finally decided to switch over to another isp, namely zeenext.
Zeenext is the only ISP, that Ive found, that offers 24/7 access and unlmited downloads at 8KB/s (thats KILOBYTES and not kilobits which would be denoted kb/s). In my line of work I need unlimited transfer rates, and hence this was the only natural choice for me.
Lets see, after a few telephone conversations with some sales representatives I had decided to take it. a tip: make sure your sales rep. is serious. My first sales rep. Was full of #$%^ and was making typical promises, but never delivering. He failed to pick up the payment and get my istallation going. So after a week of waiting, I decided to call the company (zeenext) and ask for another sales rep. Complaining that my initial rep. was incompetent. I cant remember his name, but if I did, I would have definately posted it here.
So finally things get up to speed and my cheque is cleared, and installation has begun. They tell me that installation time is 2 weeks (AT WORST) which is fine, because they do inform you. However, given persistence and nagging, you can probably get it within 1 week, which had happened in my case. just make sure your sales rep. is serious and experienced.
I had learnt a valuble lesson from my in2cable experience (please see that review) and that was to NEVER give them a deposit. at any rate, the modem that zeenext were selling was rather affordable at 5000 rs. (and I would be wililng to sell mine some time in sept end if anyone is interested, because im leaving). ok, at any rate, so the modem is 5000 (if you buy it), installation and cabling charges about 2000-3000 (I think) and 1000 rs per month (and the minimum payment is for 3 months, so thats 3000 rs)... so all in all; if you buy the modem and pay for everythying, your startup fee is at about 12, 000 rs.
Speeds are limited to 8 KB/s, so dont expect much there. service is good and rather prompt, so not much to pick on there. I did experience down time every week however, but this problem has been resolved now. A continuing problem for zeenext costumers it he sudden unavailability of the www at times. it works when you boot up, but then after 5 minutes it doesnt... some sort of dns error... not sure, but Ive had this problem for over a month and it has not been resolved so far.
Bottom Line: wait about 2 weeks to get things going, that is, after your payment has been cleared. Payment occurs in 3 month intervals. Service is decent (I mean for Indian standards)... as far as I know, this is the best option.
