Mahesh Bhatt and his Bhatt camp produce about minimum 3 or 4 films a year. This controversial film-maker is back with Zeher, from the last year`s super hit Murder and from the Pakistani actress, Meera controversy. This is another romantic thriller film from Mahesh Bhatt, a theme which usually all his films have. With such a run-off-the-mill kind of a tag line which says a love story, Mahesh Bhatt comes up with this one. This film like any other Mahesh Bhatt film also has bold dialogues, a murder mystery and the issue of extra-marital affair but will Mahesh Bhatt succeed this time?
Mahesh Bhatt`s ?Zeher?, directed by Mohit Suri stars Emraan Hashmi, Udita Goswami, Shamita Shetty, Sameer Kochhar and Ninad Kamat. This film looks at extra-marital affairs and on the importance of a married life. Will such a them, interest the viewers?
Siddharth (Emraan Hashmi) is the chief of a police station in Goa, who lives with his wife Sonia (Shamita Shetty), there. His relations with Sonia are deteriorating day by day, as Sonia wants to become a working woman, something which Sidharth does not approve of.Sonia is also pregnant with Sidharth`s child in her womb.As Sonia wants to be a working lady, she gets her child aborted, which further makes their relationship even worse. One night, Sidharth meets Anna (Udita Goswami), a very tragic kind of a woman.Anna is a married lady, whose husband (Sameer Kochhar) beats her a lot.Just like Sidharth even her relationship with her husband is also not so good.Sidharth and Anna after that meeting, start meeting each other, regularly and by the time, Anna falls head over heels for Sidharth.Sidharth doesn`t really love Anna, but he develops a soft corner in his heart for her and feels attracted towards her.Through these meetings, both of them develop a physical relationship with each other. As a result, Anna gets pregnant with Sidharth`s child, who has had no physical relation with her husband since last 2 years.Sidharth also finds out that Anna is suffering from cancer. Now, Sidharth wants to save Anna`s life, for which he has to gather some money. He decides that he will get her treated with the money he had recovered in a drug raid. With the money in his hand, he is heading off towards Anna, but unfortunately she dies in a bomb blast that night.Sidharth is suspected of killing her and this case is being handled by none other than his own wife, Sonia, who starts hating him, when she learns that Sidharth is the murderer of Anna and also that she was pregnant with his child.Sidharth`s life is in a mess.He has to find out Anna`s murderer and he also has to win his wife`s trust so that he can lead a good life, with her but how?
Emraan Hashmi, performs well, as usual as a confused man, who has love in his heart for his wife, with whom his relation is deteriorating and who has a soft corner in his heart for another woman who loves her.A good performance.
Udita Goswami look like a seductress, but then, that`s all about her.She doesn`t know how to act and secondly, her voice is also dubbed. She has also gained lots of weight, and I don`t know how?
Shamita Shetty for the first time gets a meaty role and she doesn`t diappoint. She does a good job and she deserves to get more offers.
Sameer Kochhar as Anna`s husband does a fine job, but overacts at times, which might get annoying.Ninad Kamat has nothing much to do.
Mohit Suri`s direction is fine and some scenes involving the murder mystery in the second half are interesting but the film, overall is boring because the audiences have already seen so many films with the same theme as an extra-marital affair turning into a murder mystery. The film is a drag in the second half, as Sidharth keeps on running to find some clue that who was Anna`s murderer, where as Sonia chases him.The climax is also very disappointing, and predictable.
Script seems to be totally copied from a Hollywood film, as I`m sure that Mahesh Bhatt films are all copied. The idea or theme of the film doesn`t seem to be novel.Editing could have been much better because the film throughout, moves at a very slow pace and actually your patience is tested in the second half.Dialogues are bold but very typical.Cinematography is alright!Roop Kumar Rathod`s music is good.Agar Tum Mil Jaao is a hummable song.Pakistani band Jal member, Atif Aslam`s, Woh Lamhe Woh Yaadein is a fine song, but doesn`t fit in the movie or with its theme.
On the whole, Zeher, is definitely not a must watch and you can easily avoid it but if you have no other film to see (though this cannot happen, as this week three films have released), then you may watch this one, otherwise there is no need to waste your 100 bucks on a film, which has nothing really extra-ordinary thing in it to offer.
