Poison or strangulation?

Zeher is a bold flick!

Zeher is a very well done movie!

The first time I realised that people have tragically wild imaginations. Wild because they just are and tragically so because it ensnares other viewers to watch a movie that they believe is good.

I don’t think you’ll appreciate my point of view before I give you a summary of the movie. My motive for condemning this movie will be made clear to you.

A married couple, Siddharth (Emram Hashmi) and Sonia Mehta (Shamita Shetty) are near the boundaries of divorce. Sonia feels that Siddharth is an exploitive husband, who does not respect his wife and forces her to stay home, being the typical “housewife”. However, Sonia wants to work in the police force like she did before they were married. Sonia, because of Siddharth’s behaviour was forced to abort her child and she leaves.

As soon as Siddharth is alone, he’s all confused and while he’s in his tragic world of perplexity, Anna Warghis (Udita Goswami), a married woman, who’s abused by her husband, woos him and he falls for her charms.

Her husband, Sean Warghis (Sameer Kochhar) is a hooligan and a gangster, who has absolutely no respect for his beautiful and fragile wife. In other words, Siddharth does.

The rest of the story can be described in two words – sensitive, if you’re the good-natured soul that doesn’t like to use harsh language. The other word is ‘awful.’

Since I’m not the sensitive soul, and am much too frank a person, I would rate this movie to be appalling.

On with the story, which I promised. Siddharth and Anna dive into a full-fledged affair. Then Siddharth finds out that Anna suffers of cancer, and she’ll pass away after a few months. For her treatment Siddharth gives her a huge sum of money that was entrusted to him when he was dealing with a case some time ago.

Immediately after news reaches him that the Warghese home was burnt to the ground and two bodies were found inside it. Siddharth concludes that Anna is dead and his money burnt to ashes.

The case of the burnt house (sounds like something in Holmes line, doesn’t it?) is taken up by, who else, but Sonia, Siddharth’s loving – oh! sorry, ex-wife.

Trouble follows for Siddharth, who is ordered to send in the money for encryption inspection. Unluckily for Siddharth, he doesn’t have the money.

By the way, I forgot to add, that all the way Siddharth’s trying to hide his despicable history from his wife, who incidentally, he still loves.

The end comes (thankfully) revealing that the entire plot was Anna’s hatching. Anna’s the bad woman, who was all the while playing with Siddharth. Sean was also merely a cover-up.

Sonia comes to Siddharth’s rescue, just when he was about to be shot by Anna. Then of course Siddharth tells Sonia the entire story, making her dissolve in tears.

Siddharth and Sonia make up and begin their marital and blissful life anew and live happily ever after.

The End.

Thank heavens.

I didn’t enjoy even a moment of the torture that unfolded on the screen. Hashmi looked very uncomfortable, and I thought he needed a few acting lessons before he stepped into the big screen again.

Shamita Shetty was much to artificial in the part that she played. Her glitter, glamour and character of a dignified, respectable, independent woman seemed no less than a sham on the screen.

Udita Goswami’s role – excuse me, did I say role? I’m sorry, the woman had no part in the movie except for playing flimsy character, who appears to have no moral responsibility of any kind. All she needed to do was gape a little, sob at times and gasp ”I love you Siddharth.

Sameer Kochhar did not affect the movie in any way. One often wondered what kind of personality he was trying to play.

The only one that impressed me in the least, and seemed to fit their role was Ninad Kamat, who played Siddharth’s friend. To be the only acceptable character in a vagrant film is a huge credit.

Don’t watch Zeher, unless you desire an expensive nap or headache, depending on your disposition.
