Tech review on Zenith desktop PC

Current trends have shown higher sales of laptops over desktop PC due to increased mobility in professional life and affordable prices.

However, since the launch of dual core processors and if one has to choose power over mobility, desktops do offer better performance at same price point over budget laptops and hence are still an ideal buy as a home PC.

I was looking for such a suitable home PC for my nephew aged 13 years and my selection was from Zenith PC world – the Zenith desktop with Intel dual core Pentium D processor 3 GHz. To balance the powerful processor, I configured it with 1GB RAM and 160 GB HDD.

I was already having some idea on the performance of Zenith PC since one of my brothers was also using it and the retailer(SIS Infotech, Dombivli) was hence known to me. The reputation and professional services from the retailer is equally important. Since my present requirements were very basic, I felt this was an ideal choice for my nephew.

Based on my experience in professional life, I opted to buy genuine Windows XP Home edition that was pre-installed by the OEM(original equipment manufacturer) and I have also been provided the software package with Certificate of Authenticity. A licensed copy of Quick Heal plus Anti virus 2007 package was also given and I got it activated although I am currently not using internet on the PC.

For those interested in multimedia features, the PC has DVD-RW provided by LG and has the CyberLink DVD suite. Plenty of songs, a good selection of wallpapers were also provided by the retailer.

The PC has in all 6 USB ports and I also got the Firewire port on request with adaptor as I intend to transfer digital video images from camcorder to the PC. There are 2 Midi ports(I guess it is used with some gaming device).

Given my interest in photography, I have also installed Picasa from Google and created albums of all my memorable moments.

Currently, I opted for the 17” CRT monitor due to budgetary constraints. The retailer has arranged for a UPS backup from APC, a reputed player among UPS suppliers.

Overall, I am comfortable with my choice and my nephew is naturally happy to lay his hands on the PC. I would recommend Zenith PC to all those looking for a basic desktop PC for home and family.
