Weve used Zepo to run https://DogMyCats.com from May-14 to May-16, a good two years! We chose Zepo for the one critical feature - restriction of pincodes; something that wasnt available with any other alternative.
Well, a platform to run ones e-commerce is never a long term solution. Same goes for Zepo, the flexibility goes only so far. For anyone looking to get a quick start with minimal tech investment though, I can vouch for Zepo being the best among the alternatives.
We ended up building a personal rapport with their support team. They face challenges with timelines like most start-ups do. Being empathetic towards their challenges meant that we got the same treatment back. We could really see them do their best!
Pros:
Cons:
Quite poor SEO support
Templates are not as flexible as would be expected
HTML5 templates are even more limited in number
The Search is nearly dysfunctional
But like all seriously run committed for the long-term teams, weve seen Zepo get so much better with time so the above Con-list is only bound to diminish over time. Frustrations for immediate issues would be put in place when one thinks of how much longer it would take us if we were to build the same in-house. The pace of development of new features & improvements therefore, when put in perspective, is definitely better than custom built features in-house.
In all, Zepo was possibly the best thing that happened to us until such time that we were ready to make the technology investment ourselves. It really helped us validate our business model before we could move to the next level.
