I have now had two aircon technicians look at the Panasonic. Both wrongly asserted that the noise was being transmitted from the outside unit via the copper pipes to the indoor unit. I have now had an Aircon Technician look at the system. He traced the noise I'm hearing to the external air compressor which has a vibration that travels down the copper pipe into my bedroom.
