WILL AKSHAY-ANEES JODI WORK ITS MAGIC FOR THE 3RD TIME?

One actor whose films are regularly churned out is Akshay Kumar. Known for doing multiple films within the span of max 60 days, there are always 4-5 releases of Akki in a year. His next film Thank You (TY) releases tomorrow. Directed by Anees Bazmee, it’s a fully fledged comic caper and has Akshay in a role which is loved by fans. If this film would have released even during 2 years ago, it would have surely generated lots of excitement and surely taken an earth shattering opening. However, times have changed. After delivering alternatively average films (Khatta Meetha and Tees Maar Khan) and flops (Action Replayy and Patiala House), Akshay’s prestige has taken a beating. Result: Thank You has all ingridents of a mass entertainer and yet there isn’t much hype! To top it all, IPL also begins tomorrow!

However, what goes in favour of the film is its plotline which from the promos seems like a cross between No Entry and Shaadi No 1. The former was made Bazmee himself and if he can work his magic yet again in TY, then it would be just too good! Besides Akki, TY also stars Sonam Kapoor, Irrfan, Bobby Deol, Suniel Shetty, Celina Jaitly and Rimi Sen. Vidya Balan is also expected to be seen in a cameo. Finally, there’s Mallika Sherawat’s item song too which unfortunately hasn’t topped the charts. Same goes for Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo remix. But Full Volume is a pretty decent number which I tend to listen repeatedly! Do give a try!

The film is produced by UTV, who has never single-handedly backed a comic caper. What goes against TY is aforementioned factors and also that Bazmee’s previous film No Problem was a disaster. Also his other film, Singh Is Kinng wasn’t loved by many. However, one must note that the biggest hits of Akshay’s career are Singh Is Kinng and Welcome, both helmed by Bazmee. Will they be lucky the third time?

SHINEY AHUJA CASE VERDICT-HARSH PUNISHMENT?

Last week, Shiney Ahuja was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment by the Fast track Sessions Court for raping his domestic help. Although the victim had turned hostile, the evidence was enough to nail the actor. Media’s job after covering the verdict was to ask the celebs for their reaction to the punishment. While no celeb openly proclaimed that the punishment was justified, some like Arshad Warsi called it ‘harsh punishment’!

It’s amusing that we are so used to influential people going scot free for the heinous crimes committed by them, that when a Shiney Ahuja gets jailed for 7 years, some feel it’s a ‘harsh punishment’!
