NOVEMBER TO END ON A GOOD NOTE THANKS TO TERE ISHK MEIN

There was a significant film every week this month, but none of them emerged as clean hits. Haq underperformed and so did De De Pyaar De 2. Last week’s 120 Bahadur and Mastiii 4 neither opened well nor saw a jump in the collections. However, the industry is happy that Tere Ishk Mein, which releases tomorrow, is all set to surprise.

Tere Ishk Mein stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon and is directed by Aanand L Rai. The perception is that it’s a spiritual sequel to Raanjhanaa. The teaser of the film was quite solid and left a mark. The songs also gradually grew while the trailer was also accepted.

There are two strong factors that have gone in favour of Tere Ishk Mein. The music worked and that’s a rarity in today’s times. Secondly, it is the right film for the season. Films showing a heartbroken man going all out seems to be working, as evident by the super-hit success of Sanam Teri Kasam (that too on its re-release) and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat and the blockbuster success of Saiyaara.

Until last week, it seemed like Tere Ishk Mein would open at around Rs. 7-8 crores. But now the film is all set to have an opening of around Rs. 11-12 crores and can also go higher. If the word of mouth is in its favour, it can now have a weekend of Rs. 50 crores. It’ll face competition next week from Dhurandhar, but if public reports are positive, it’ll manage to retain some shows from Week 2.

The other release of the week also has the word ‘Ishq’ in its title, that is, Gustaakh Ishq. It stars Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Naseeruddin Shah and Sharib Hashmi. Unlike the intense and violent films of today’s times, this one seems like a breath of fresh air. Its music is by Vishal Bhardwaj and it is Manish Malhotra’s first theatrical production as well.

Unfortunately, the buzz is negligible and also Tere Ishk Mein will be the first choice for the moviegoers. At present, it seems like it’ll open under Rs. 1 crore. Terrific word of mouth is essential for Gustaakh Ishq to sustain and grow.
