WILL THE 3 RELEASE OF THE WEEK SHINE AT THE BOX OFFICE?

It’s that Friday when again multiple films, all starring/backed by big names are releasing at the same time. While Jolly LLB is produced by Fox Star Studios, Mere Dad Ki Maruti is a film by Y-Films (part of Yash Raj Films) while 3G is backed by Eros International. My views on these films:

JOLLY LLB: Some films look like winners from their first trailer itself. Jolly LLB is a case in point! The trailer seemed hilarious but at the same time gave out strong indication that it is a film with a message, a film with a thought! Arshad Warsi, who has been missing since quite some time and had a forgettable film like Zila Ghaziabad as one of his recent releases, is back in form and how! Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla and not to forget, Amrita Rao, too seems to have done a great job. Dialogues are quite witty and the film that talks about an aam aadmi’s struggle should strike a chord. Buzz for the film is positive and good word of mouth can easily do the trick for this moderately budgeted film.

MERE DAD KI MARUTI: Just like Jolly LLB, Mere Dad Ki Maruti too created an impact through its first trailer which is in truest sense, is ROFL-ilicious! The subsequent promos and songs have been consistent in preserving the excitement for this film. Saqib Saleem, who rocked in Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, seems in top form. So does Ram Kapoor, who is awesome as the loud and hot-tempered ‘dad’ in the film! Newbie Rhea Chakraborty is sizzling hot and looks quite adorable. Music is energetic with Punjabiyaan Di Battery already becoming a rage. What goes against the film is that it’s more urban-centric and hence might have limited reach in smaller centres, something that was faced by Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge as well. And obviously, the film has sufficient competition. However, again, a good feedback can do wonders and plus, the costs are low too. Hence, Mere Dad Ki Maruti seems to be in a safe zone.

3G: 3G is produced by Next Gen Films along with Eros International, who had both produced 2013’s first success, Table No.21. Table No.21 too was shot in Fiji, like 3G but obviously both films are poles apart. 3G is a horror with a 3G-enabled phone at the root of all tension between the lead characters of the film played by Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan. The film has been promoted more through link-up stories of Neil and Sonal and also Sonal’s bikini avatar (which is terrific). Music is decent with Kaise Bataoon being sung by both the actors themselves. The film looks like a stylized horror film and might have substance. But promotions haven’t been exciting and buzz for the film is low. Also, competition from Mere Dad Ki Maruti and Jolly LLB will prove detrimental. But then, one never knows! After all, 3G is a horror film. 5 months back, 1920-Evil Returns came out of nowhere and collected handsomely, even when reports were negative. Hence, 3G might turn out to be the surprise of the week.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE JOLLY LLB, MERE DAD KI MARUTI OR 3G? DO LET ME KNOW!
