Let The Teachers’ Wishes Be Respected.
Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions.
In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' day. We all know that 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. The entire nation remembers him more as a teacher, rather than as a President.
Recently in a leading news paper I read an interesting article, In a unique gesture of gratitude and love for their guru, over 4,000 students who had learnt Tamil from octogenarian S.C. Venkatraman over the last 30 years at a school in Namakkal and are now living in different parts of the country, have come together to collect a million rupees to build him a house.
Really I was touched by this event. A rare kind of Guru-daskhina by the students of Mr Venkataraman,. It is rare to see such gesture to teachers. The students have set the noble initiative and it is certain that such examples would follow in future. Hats off to the teacher and his disciples. This is the true ancient Indian culture. I wish we emulate this.
Guru - Shishya parampara is the basis of rich Indian Culture, since ancient times. Knowledge is pricelessa and invaluable, but the gesture shown by the students to ease the sufferings of their teacher, must be hailed by one and all. The revered gesture of the students need to be highlighted as example in schools and educational institutions, so that the present day students can adopt the spirit and principles of teacher-student relationship.
A good teacher helps the students to develop all the great qualities of civilized human beings. An ideal teacher is thus one who leaves a permanent impact on the children he grooms, and they remember him for his great qualities at different times of their lives. A student is a mirror which reflects the learning and knowledge of a teacher. A loving teacher is forever remembered and loved by students.
Teachings has a major influence in nurturing ones mind and plays an effective role in shining the light of knowledge and dispel the clouds of ignorance.
One of the major issues in education today is that teaching is no longer seemed as a noble profession. Teachers aren't really respected by students or parents, and society tends to view them as baby-sitters, instead of educators. I'm really wondering why this whole mentality began?
I am yet to find out why teaching is a low-paying job from the most advanced nation to the least developing nation.
How come a noble profession like teaching cannot attract higher pay?
Even those in the universities are complaining of poor remuneration and poor infrastructure in the universities. Those in the schools and colleges of education are also not left out. When will all these troubles end?
Many teachers these days no longer believe that they serve a bigger purpose than just to teach what is in the text books.
The low pay, long hours, harassment by parents and also double standards in promotion has put off many aspiring teachers from entering into the teaching profession.
Good teachers are costly, but bad teachers cost more. (Bob Talbert)
Personally, I've always felt it's obvious that we should pay teachers better. There is no reason to hold teachers to a rigid pay scale based on seniority, let alone the pay scale of the civil service. Teachers perform a much more important job than civil servants. It only makes sense to pay them more, and especially to pay the outstanding teachers more.
In teaching you cannot see the fruit of a day's work. It is invisible and remains so, maybe for twenty years. (Jacques Barzun)
Other professions including those that do lesser job than the teachers get their reward here on earth, why should the teachers’ be delayed until hereafter? Can our politicians have their reward in heaven? Why only the teachers’ that must wait for heaven?
The Government should increase the pay of teachers to attract more qualified people with the passion to teach. The teaching profession as the last choice for most graduates but it used to be one of the top choices few years back. So what has changed in the past few years?
The government should not delay otherwise it will be dangerous in this matter. Let the teacher’s problem be treated like a national emergency. Ignorance is a big disease that can afflict a nation. Our teachers are noble people and they deserve a living wage and not a pittance. Teaching is about the oldest profession. It is the mother of all professions. All professionals pass through the tutelage of a teacher. Let the teachers’ wishes be respected.
Teachers need encouragement and support from the community to feel that their devotion to students is appreciated.
