Amkette Flash TV can play movies and photos from USB storage devices such as Flash drives and external HDD’s on your television.
Your normal DVD players which has a USB port supports only AVI(DIVX/XVID) format from the USB device, is quite bulky and expensive too. Similar other products(like the Western Digital player) are a lot expensive.
Amkette Flash TV comes for just Rs 2500 and supports many popular file formats.
Video formats supported are DAT/VCD(MPEG-1), VOB/DVD(MPEG-2), AVI-DivX/XviD(MPEG-4, Layer 2), RM/RMVB formats.
Audio formats supported are MP3 and WMA formats
You can see your images in JPEG, BMP, TIFF and PNG files on your TV.
It also supports .txt files so it plays subtitles too(SRT & SUB).
Unboxing Flash TV, I found a compact media player, a remote, an adapter, a user manual, a quick start guide, an AV connection wire & a YUV connection wire.
Once connected to the TV, it takes its input from one USB2.0 port and one SD/MMC Card Slot. I guess it could have had atleast 2 USB ports. And yes, it does support external Hard drive, tried it myself.
The output is quite good on my normal flat TV(sorry haven’t tried it on a LCD yet). You can choose from different video modes and screen sizes too(even 16:9). Full screen feature is great. The remote has a volume control for the player separately, along with mute, fast forward, rewind etc.
I tried running different formats on it from my hard drive and they worked perfectly – movies, songs, pictures & texts. The user interface is quite simple and the movies and folders could be switched/selected with the help of the remote.
Now the flaws in this player…
Firstly, it doesn’t support MKV and mp4 formats.
Secondly, remember when we are playing a movie on our pc/laptop and try forwarding it by dragging the bar and it doesn’t move ahead? Well, similar is the case with a few movies played in this player too. If you try and forward or use the GOTO option to skip, the movie just loops to the end. This of course happens on rare occasions, not for all the movies.
Lastly, although the device is quite compact and could be carried around with ease, a pouch to carry the other accessories would have been really helpful.
Amkette Flash TV is a great device to enjoy movies and pictures on your television.
