How many of them who have watched this movie know that this movie was a re-make of the original Malayalam super hit Manichitrathazhu. The story was one of a kind and mind blowing. I am surprised why it took so long to re-make this in Hindi given that the original was released way back in 1993. Also priyadarshan was an assistant director of the orininal movie directed by Fazil. That made Priyadarshan an ideal one to remake this in Hindi given his experience in making Bollywood movies.
Any movie with an excellent story line will be a right away hit and so is this. This movie is about unravelling a mystery of a haunted ancestral mansion. Shiny Ahuja is the descendant of a ruling family that owned this palatial mansion. He and his educated wife Vidya Balan don’t believe in the ghost theory that has haunted this mansion for decades. He makes a bold decision to live there with his newly married wife against the wishes of elders who believe that the place is inauspicious.
Legent has it that once the king, a lover of dance nritya was baffleed by this new beautiful dancer from Bengal. The old king fell in love with this dancer but the dancer loved a poet from the Kings own darbar. The king learnt this and also learnt that she had planned to elope with that poet who lived right across the palace in a guest house. The day when she planned this move the king summoned her to the darbar to dance for him. The king also secretly arranged to behead this poet in front of everybody. When the dancer saw her lover beheded she locked herself in a room and hanged herself. That spelled doom for the entire king family resulting in the kings death and the mansion becoming haunted for ever.
Shiny Ahuja and his wife also face a series of unfortunate events in this mansion. His friend American friend, psychiatrist Dr. Aditya Shrivastav(Akshay Kumar) arrives just in time to solve this puzzling mystery. And in this process what he will discover will shock everybody in a nail bitting finish that will keep the audience at their feet.
A must watch movie not because of any spectacular performance by its casts but for the spectacular story line.
