I recently ordered from over hyped BigBasket.com and was deeply disappointed once I started using the groceries shipped.
Vegetables:
Look perfect from outside. Once you use them you realize a shock. They have no taste at all! Lemons dont taste sour and are covered by smelly chemicals. Tomatoes don’t have their characteristic taste. Also they are sent unripe.
Advice: Don’t buy from Bigbasket. Buy from farmers maret or nearby vegetable shop. The sign of good vegetable/fruit is one that has its characteristic taste and spoils like a normal vegetable. Otherwise it is a hybrid and chemical treated one, which will spoil your health and not improve it like natural fruits/vegetables.
Fruits:
Same as vegetables and size of fruits sent is smaller than available in market.
Advice: Don’t buy from Bigbasket. Buy from nearby fruit shop or hawkers
Groceries:
Atleast 2 months old stock. You wont receive fresh groceries which is a surprise. Already selling old stock items.
Dont buy grains, dals, etc as they seem to hybrid variety and with chemicals which is not good for health.
Eggs are also small in size and expensive than market price. again a shock.
Advice: Can buy if don’t mind old stock. Otherwise go to nearby supermarket.
Meat, chicken, fish
Highly expensive than market!! Frozen and packed several days back. So its not fresh and tastes like that. you pay a lot more for something that’s not even fresh.
Advice: Buy from nearby meat shop. they will give you fresh items at far lower rates.
Customer Service
They claim to give 10% off for all new customers, upto max bill value of 24000 rupees. But they are hiding this from customers. I had to search for this offer and ask them. Even then it takes several calls before they give this offer. Remember that 10% off is on next bill, not on present bill! They force you to shop again and again.
If you call the number which they give for customer support, no one takes your call. It is IVR system, so you are still charged money!
Cost
Not that less. Discounts offered are really less which is a shock. They dont have any shop, so they save rent, employee salaries, electricity, maintenance, etc. Even then they dont give proper discount.
Delivery
Average delivery. You have to order atleast 1 day before unlike supermarket where you can get groceries immediately. Sometime they come on time. Otherwise they make you wait for hours and hours, and give excuses for reaching late.
Weight
They say 1 kg/2kg, etc and give you less than that. It happens for all products which they packed, having a ugly Bigbasket.com sticker on them.
Advice: cheating again. If you buy from reliance and other super market, or vegetable store, you get correct weight. but not bigbasket. they make money here also buy making you pay more and delivering lesser weight.
Online groceries is a good thing. But Bigbasket is not the answer. They also cheat you by not giving you free items given by companies. Why should I buy from Bigbasket.com if they do these things?
