I am not here to recommend any product or service, all I would be presenting is facts; First of all I have come to know from my friends about this service, initially I was very skeptical about what would be the speed, how will be the service etc.
Next day I went to bsnl office and enquired about the product and they said its available for Rs 3500 if you buy the device or Rs 200 every month as rent. Monthly charges of Rs.650.
There was an update in bsnl website that until sept 30th 2009 there is a discount if you buy the card and EVDO card will be available at Rs2100 or something *offer valid until stock lasts. This is just a marketing drama, I had to buy the card for Rs.3640 in september itself and trust me stock was available aplenty.
I had to carry my laptop to bsnl office, where the technician gave me a CD and installed a software, then he inserted a USB drive and ran some diagnostic program and configured the setting of my connection and told me the only way to get good speeds is to have good signal reception. Also told EVDO is availabe all over in AP now.
Next talking about the speed of the service, I have used this card in two areas in hyderabad
1) Nallakunta : download 800 kbps and upload 80kbps ( near to 1 megabit).
2) Golconda - suncity : download 650 kbps and upload 40 kbps. ( near to half megabit)
At both the places signal never went down below 300 kbps when signal was full.
For weak signal i.e 1 or 2 towers, speed was averaging around 100 to 200 kbps.
Trust me the speed is very good :) and its unlimited connection. Make sure you get all 4 towers of signal and happy downloading.
