A remarkable bistro and deli in town!

Café Basilico:It is located in a hidden away fashion down colaba causeway and adjacent to the radio club. Its an informal European style bistro cum deli. This amazing café is the creation of the entrepreneur Farhan Azmi.

As we enter the bistro we are enlighted with the aroma of fresh basil. Its a cosy and informal coffee bar with chic wooden and glass interiors. The décor is kept simple yet comfortable. It has high ceiling giving the crampy room a feeling of space and wooden floor giving the feeling of warmth. It is made on not so big area with seating capacity of around 30 people. Well done seating arrangement that is. The color scheme is also nicely chosen, earthy shades and greens.

Now, the actual reason to write this review-its tantalizing range of hors d’oeuvre!Lavoche, pies, breads, gnocchi, salads, sandwiches, grills, smoothies, pastries and of course their coffee etc. all under one roof and mind it, itsgoing to be hard for you to really decide which one is better than the other.

The dessert menu has 25 delectable desserts namely kahlua torte, hazelnut chocolate torte, tiramisu, double chocolate mousse cake, amaretto mud cake, chocolate ecstasy etc, but my favourite is the oreo cheesecake! They also have sugar free desserts for the sweet lovers. They offer a variety of  fresh home made breads. In my opinion the sandwiches they cater are amongst one of the town’s best ones namely- grilled panini sandwich, yellow corn sandwich etc.The vegetarian burger is also very delicious! There is a salad bar too for the weight watchers. The must haves of this coffee shop are veg.tomato soup-which is generally very simple. But the chef of this bistro definitely knows how to make it special. It has a peculiar taste and aroma of lemongrass which makes it stand out! Also not to be missed  are the pastas. penne arrabiata, spinach tomato cannelloni etc.Their coffee specially java coffee is also very good!

The place is famous for its breakfast menu and opens as early as 7.30 am and closes down very late at night. The service is quick and prompt. The place is generally a hub for non-Indian tourists and eminent people from the showbiz sector. Recently they have also opened a branch at bandra.

Price wise it’s a bit on the pricey side but worth every penny that you spend. It is recommended to carry Rs.1000 for a lunch for two. Its neither very expensive nor too cheap. This cafeteria is such that you will definitely find a reason to visit it again!
