Cafe Coffee Day, Chennai is one hell of a chill-out place.
Or so my friends say.
For those of us living in metros & other major cities of India, Cafe Coffee Day is a well known name. For those who arent familiar with this name, Coffee Day is the Indian version of Starbucks.
Its quite widespread with over 50 outlets across the length of the country, and is growing rapidly. :(
As the name suggests, it specializes in Coffee! It tries to create an ambience, wherein one can relax and enjoy their cup of coffee.
Lets get on with the menu. Though I personally dont like the place, I concede that it has a wide variety of coffees...right from the normal espressos, cappuchinos, to exotic cold coffee combinations like the Hawaiian & Kenyan Safari. The cold coffee comes with either crushed ice, or on the rocks!
There is a small range of snacks...burgers, pastries, as well as a few non-caffeine drinks (pina colada types).
Well, all these items may seem tempting when you skim through the menu. But all temptation would have disappeared by the time your ordered items reach you.
Yeah...the service is pathetic! Actually, pathetic is too mild a word to use.
It takes them around 15-25 mins to bring in the coffee. You sit wondering if they have run out of milk or coffee. Maybe they are at the dairy farm or coffee plantations gathering the ingredients!
The least one expects after waiting for so long is some pleasant remarks by the waiters. But sadly, you dont get that either...Grim faces are all you get.
To narrate a personal incident...I saw a poster at Coffee Day stating: If your coffee isnt served with a smile, its FREE. My happiness knew no bounds when I read this...I was confident of getting my coffee free! ;) It dint work out though...maybe you MSers around the country should try it out.
Coming to the COFFEE, its on the average side. The On the Rocks coffee glass is 2/3 ice! Most other coffees are passable, but when one is paying something like Rs. 50 per glass, it better be better than passable.
My personal tastes prefer coffees from Barista (Taj group) or from Qwickys...both are competitors to Coffee Day.
Alrite...you have been sitting at the cafe for bout 40 mins now. You have finished your coffee. You expect the cheque to come in fast. But hold on...the dudes there love you..they shall make you sit at the cafe for another 5-10 mins before you get your hands on the cheque.
All in all, I find it a waste of time & money. Would rather chill-out some place else. But at the same time, a lot of rational people I know prefer this place to many others...guess you need try it for yourself :)
And yeah..dont get addicted to coffee...more than 2 cups a day has been scientifically proved to increase the probability of occurence of many cardiac diseases*!
Cheers :)
