One year ago today, the time for excuse-making has come to an end.

A few might raise eyebrows and say – Suyog writing on commenting!!! Interesting! Lets see what he has got to talk about commenting! Any how without sounding pretentious let me admit that past few days I have been commenting more than writing reviews…why, the amount of comments I wrote, I could have written a book!! However, sinner is the saint for today in this review – Listen to what the sage says! Its not everyday that a saint speaks words of wisdom.
So here are a few observations on commenting and comments I have read and received. Below are what I perceive what kind of comments I spike and what kind I like, and how I think commenting should be!
• “I loved all your reviews and enjoyed the last x of y of them” – ARGHHH! I hate these types of comments! Common, comment “ON” the review...and not make a comprehensive comment of last 10 reviews!
• “I think, you know, maybe, on second thoughts” – Get what I am saying? Don’t get confused while commenting. Write a comment and stand by it!!! I had the great pleasure of reading comments on my kaante review…for a member initially rated my review NR, then changed it SR, hated my review and loved the movie, and by the time the comments ended, actually was in confusion as to whether she liked the movie in the first place and was also unsure about my review! Bohemian tragedy!
• “Come to that site I will see you there!” – I don’t understand such comments too! Why comment like that. You are here on the forum!!! You read the review! You are commenting!!! And you want the writer to come elsewhere to here what you want to say! I had also the privilege of reading such comments!
• “If you do this , I will do that, If you do this, I will reread/rate” – Cut the crap! Obviously, nobody thinks of any specific individual person while writing a review. Then why tell the other person to do something which the writer may not have intended in the first place!! If you want to comment on the review – fine – say you didn’t agree – don’t try to make the writer comply with your liking and comment!
• “Good review there…” – lets be honest, I love these kind of comments. Everyone does. Everyone feels good be patted if they write something and it has been appreciated! If you feel what the writer has written, you should give him/her some kind of encouragement!
• “Baap review, Pura paisa vasool” – I love comments which are witty, humorous and written for the pleasure of writing!! These are the best comments! Why? For one, you know your reader read the review. Second, you immediately feel like reading those comments again and again and please yourself! Third, such comments get replied even quicker! Kudos to all members who come up with interesting and great comments like these!
• “This is not the right place to do this, do that, go there” – I hate these comments too!! Comment on what is in the review and what the review is “about” and not on something tangential in the review, which people may put it there for fun! Don’t try to find something in a review and comment – “your spelt that word wrong!”. More than that, don’t make the review seem absolutely irrelevant by going on and on the same. I had this great pleasure of such comments on my review of creative zen mp3 player. What began as an electronic review ended in comments as a war on George Bush! I ended the whole commentary by taking a stand, and it has helped!
• “Here is something interesting...cont’d...cont’d...cont’d” – For heaven’s sake, don’t write historical comments!! Rather make it a review and put it up!!! Recently I got a comment which went on and on and on…mind you it was pretty good, but the point is it’s a “comment” not a “review”. Write, but don’t write a hamlet there!
• “I will not rate any more reviews…I will not do that” – I hate such types too!! Common, no one is going to change the world by not agreeing to someone else! Fight, but don’t make it a personal issue out of it! We are here to have a good time and learn from one another and listen to others opinion!! I and missy have our share of fierce commenting, but folks, we both won’t change the world! So instead try to listen and have a nice time!
• “I think baazee will do that, Indiatimes will do this” – Arre baba, what was the review on? What are you commenting on!!! Sometimes, ridiculous reviews get even ridiculous comments! Save yourself! Remind the author that he/she wrote something which was not the point of the whole review…don’t just agree with it! Of course, if the author himself/herself mentions it that knowing that the topic is wrong and still writes something sensible, then don’t go about telling them – “your review is not in the right place!”
Well these are the types of comments I spike and like! When it comes to commenting, even I am not the best admittedly. I think only a few know how to comment and make it effective. For more training on how to comment, read comments by premjit, fatcat, vivekbp, diskonnect, just-did-it, achougoo, jilmil, jasbirdyn, spookay, tongue_in_cheek, meleahk1, karana23, arunroy et al!
Keep writin...and yeah, comments please! Lets see how you do the talking!!
