Corona : Pretty close to the ordinary

Corona : Pretty close to the ordinary

Okay to be frank, I must admit that I liked Corona when I initially had it. It was a different tasting beer at first, I wasn’t used to having lime in my beer then. Corona incidently happens to be the most popular beer in Mexico, the reasons of which I am not so sure why.

Most people have it with lime, and it is not surprising why. It carries a taste that you woudn’t hate because there is none. It is almost like water. So atleast with the lemon added, it gives you an impression that you are having lemonade with some alcohol. It lacks fizz as well and when you pour it in a glass (why even bother?), there is an discernable difference as compared to other beers, because it doesn’t seem to create much head in the mug. It is as lifeless as it could possibly get.

They say Mexican beers are great with food, but I simply can’t find as reason as why one would prefer corona to even water while savouring the rich mexican food. There is not much after taste to it either which is probably a good thing as far as this beer would go. I would hate to have a lingering taste of lemony beer in my mouth for that matter. The problem with beers in this class, is perhaps they just serve to refresh without any concern to the taste. I am surprised as to how they sustain their popularity. I think it is gotto do with the fact that people go with the mob mentality and everyone seems to be drinking corona and bud these days, god knows why.

It maybe an okay substitute for lemonade by the beach or for the lunch during working days, because you can drink as much as you want and stay sober. To say that this was fairly priced would be wrong too. It costs slightly less than 8$ for a six pack, and to me this is overpricing for a pretty ordinary product.

It also comes in a Light version. I still can’t make out why. The Extra one is as light as it could get. They advertise this beer as ’miles away from the ordinary’, I still don’t get it. If this is miles away from the ordinary, then I really wan’t to see what ordinary tastes like. And I don’t know what it is with North America, Bud is the most popular beer in the US and Corona in Mexico, both lifeless, tasteless beers.

Stay away from this one, there is no dearth of good beers in the market.
