Movie Review Of D

Psst - This section will contain some inside trivia about the film.

Quotes - Good one liners from the movie.

Oops - Goofs From the movie.

Director – Vishram Sawant

Screenplay – Vishram Sawant

Deshu(Randeep Hooda) has just come from Dubai for the last rites of his mother. One day while having lunch a gangster comes running to seek refuge in his house and is shot by rival gangster in front of his eyes. When the police take him for interrogation and want to make him a witness he turns hostile and is beaten up by the cops. Deshu is now hell bent to join the notorious, “Bombay Underworld.” He joins the gang of Ashif Bhai(goga Kapoor) and becomes friend with fellow gangster Raghav(Chunkey Pandey). He grows as a gangster slowly taking control over the entire gang and starts to make it in to a corporate The growth angers Ashif’s good for nothing sons (Yashpal Sharma and Sushant Singh) primarily because their father trusts Deshu and Raghav more then them. They try all means to remove Deshu and Raghav from the gang but don’t succeed. Although D is nothing but a mixture of Company and Satya but its still good and honest attempt to make a no – nonsense film. Fantastic acting by everyone and another good look at the working of the underworld. Although the actress (Rukshar and Isha Kopikar) have nothing to do they have acted good. Good debut by Vishram Sawant.

Psst –

1) This was supposed to be a prequel to Ramgopal Varma’s earlier Gangster Flic Company and Ajay Devgan was supposed to be in the lead role. But Ramgopal Varma had the huge project of Ek (Which was subsequently shelved) and Sarkar so he decided to make D only as a prequel in “Spirit” and let his assistant Vishram Sawant Direct it and Ramgopal Varma decided to produce it.

2) This was one of the most talked about film as like Company, D was reportedly based on the life of real life gangster Dawood Ibrahim.

3) No matter how much Ramgopal Varma denies, D is loosely based on the life of Dawood Ibrahim. Like Deshu, Dawood was the son of a police constable. Like Deshu, Dawood had a girl friend from the film industry(Dawood’s girlfriend was mandakini). Like Deshu, Dawood started his career under famous gangster Karim Lala. Dawood is a teetotaler like Deshu and never raises his voice. Dawood also, like Deshu, used lots of hired assassins to slain rival gangs. Dawood is a chain smoker like Deshu and also is never without the trademark Ray Ban Glares.

4) D has to be reportedly, shown to the men of gangster Dawood Ibrahim and Chotta Rajan before clearance.

5) Ramgopal Varma was also reportedly threatened by Gangsters a week before the film was released and Varma later denied all reports.

6) For all those who are wondering, Randeep had a small role in the movie Monsoon Wedding.
