I am not discussing about this particular product in my review.I will give stress on oral hygiene maintainance. For a perfect smile, disease free oral cavity and odour free breath we must practice a good oral hygiene practice both at home as well as clinic.
Its very simple to perform. The bacteria in our mouth require carbohydrate for thier growth and reproduction. They digest this carbohydrate using their enzymes and produce acids in the oral cavity. This acid is responsible for tooth decay(Dental caries).
Proper brushing method and its frequency (2 times daily) helps in removing these pathogenic bacteria and thus aids in oral health.
In this review my main stress in on dental caries and not any other oral pathology.By effective plaque control one can prevent these caries.Dental caries is an irreversible disease of teeth and can only be removed by tooth invasive techniques used in dental clinics which requires removal of the caries and thereby filling it with some suitable restoration.
The type of toothpaste and tooth brush are not that important factors but your own health oriented behavior plays the most important part in oral hygiene practice program. If you gargle properly after every meal, and brush twice daily(before break fast and after dinner), it will prevent accumulation of plaque on your teeth(plaque is thin bio-film adhering to the tooth surface containing microrgainsms), and thus preventing dental caries. This plaque if not removed converts(mineralises) into calculus(commonly known as tartar)which cannot be removed by simple brushing at home and requires clinical treatment.
The brush should essentially be soft.Modern commercially available tooth brushes are very well designed for better access to difficult to clean surfaces on and in between the teeth. The brushing should be done in a vertical stroke for effective removal of all debris. The fibres of food sometimes entangles in between the teeth and are difficult to remove. These can be easily removed using a tooth pick or small proxa brushes(never leave these fibres unattended as they provide resistance for more deposition of such things there.
When it comes to tooth paste..all are good.No one is superior to other for therapeutic reasons.Dont get carried away with such advertisements which boosts of their tooth pastes. The color, taste are personal choices. All tooth pasted have similar composition and contains flouride(Flouride is an anti-caries agent).
If you are very caries prone or want to prevent caries throughout your life then a mouth wash can help you.Not just any mouth wash!! ..I wont recommend the very commonly used Listrine as it contains thymol and is not very effective for plaque control.A mouth wash containig chlorhexidine is the best and its proven. In India commercially available Clohex can be used daily. Its very cheap too.But remember that it should be used atleast 30 min BEFORE brushing as after brushing it has no effect.
The brushing should never be done in a hurry or harsh manner.A gentle massage of the teeth with brush is advocated along with finger massage of gums.
After cleaning your teeth the tongue should be cleaned properly for about 15 seconds.Tongue blades are helpful. The surface of the tongue harbours 70% bacteria in the oral cavity and should be cleaned regularly to prevent bad breath and dental caries and inflammation of tongue.
I wont recommend any special tooth paste but if you have sensitivity in your teeth for heat or cold, you can use Sensodent and if bleeding gums is your problem then I will tell you the most easily available one, Pepsodent-G.
Apart from practicing heathy oral hygiene maintainance you should your dentist every six month for regular dental checkups.A proffestional scaling is adviced every six months.
I hope I have not wasted much of your precious time and some people may benefit from my review. If you have any doubts or quiries your comments are always welcome.
Any questions about diseases and treatment of face and oral cavity can be sent to me.Keep smiling.
