I thought it would be a fitting introduction to a site with the name of Mouthshut to review a movie titled Dont Say a Word. But, alas, when I went to search for it in the database, it was nowhere to be found. This effectively silenced me for a while. Then, I decided to use the handy product recommendation feature to see if I could remedy this problem. Now here I am.
I have read several reviews of this film at a similar site. I noticed that many people just did not care for this flick. I guess that puts me in the minority. No, I will not say that this is one of the best things I have ever seen. It is not even the best thing I have seen with Michael Douglas, but it isnt the worst either. When I first saw the previews, I knew this was a must see for me. I am the eternal Michael Douglas fan. The whole storyline seemed intriguing as well. I was not disappointed when I got the chance to view it(though I was one of only about 1/2 dozen people in the theater). The plot centers around Douglas who is a noted child psychiatrist. His whole world is changed when he gets a new patient who is a handfull to say the least. The morning after, he awakens to find his only child missing. It is not long before he learns that she has been kidnapped. The ransom is a six digit number that his new patient keeps locked in her head. Here is where I start to have a bit of problems with the plot of this film. The good doctor seems to miraculously be able to figure out things about this girl that no one else has discovered in years of institutionalization. Yes, I know he is supposed to be the best, but lets be just a bit realistic. Only a psychic and a mind reader would be able to get all that he figures out in the length of time that he does. I will not tell you if he finds out the number or even if he discovers what the number means. I also wont tell you if he gets his daughter back. I will tell you that the movie is very fast paced and quite suspenseful at times. I will also tell you that Douglas does a fine job of portraying the worried father who will do whatever it takes to get his daughter back. The actress who is his patient is also very convincing(Im sorry, but her name escapes me.)
This film fits many differnet bills. It is a sweet story about the love of a parent for a child. It has car chases and hand to hand combat. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. Dont hesitate to go and see it and then say a few words.
