A Beautiful Pain...

Ok... before you think I am talking about the beautiful pain in Love, let me clarify.

This Hospital is beautifully built but, left a bad pain in my memory for a lifetime. So, now you know what I’m trying to talk about. Let me review this hospital unbiasedly...at least, let me try!

About this Hospital:

Padma Bhushan, Dr. LAKHUMAL HIRANAND HIRANANDANI, is the founder of this lush palatial hospital located in Powai, at the North-West Corner of Hiranandani Gardens. The location of this Huge Hospital is strategic providing the much needed SILENCE in a hospital’s premises.

Honestly speaking, when I entered this Hospital for the first time, I really couldn’t fight this thought whether they had planned a posh Hotel and later on changed their mind to convert it into a Hospital. Lol! U think I’m kidding...well, then take a look at it yourself (only thing, I’m hoping that you won’t be rendering their long-time services :) )

It’s built up area accounts to about 180, 000 sq. feet (Source: Hiranandani Constructions Pte. Ltd.). Holding up a basement+Ground+6 Floors, this Hospital has been built with modern sleek designs. Definitely... eye catching!. The entrance and the lobby is what caught my attention the most thereby reiterating the proverb that ’’First Impression, is the best impression!’’. However, they couldn’t live up to this for long...is another case altogether that I’ll discuss later.

Well, Kudos to Architect Hafeez Contractor, Mahimtura Consultants & Hiranandani Constructions Pte. Ltd. for building a structurally emphatic Hospital.

The Plus Points!

The flooring (green marble at the right place, and non-slippery at crucial places), furniture (sleek & sensitive), 2 lifts with alert Liftmen and spacious enough to accommodate more than 15 standing people in each, a cafeteria with cheerful yellow furniture and ample sunlight, a ?May-I-Help-You? desk at the entrance which is efficiently handled by a mature female staff.

Of course, there?s a longer reception desk a few paces behind this single desk which houses about 6 staff. AMPLE SPACE is THE word to describe this hospital in one glance inside the main lobby. Also, all the staff I came across in my 2 visits, were polite & helpful. There’s also a shop inside the Hospital that boasts of selling goods(gift items & commodities for a newborn also) at the normal MRP...nothing more! (they had a board claiming the same!).

Hospital Charges:

Well, as you might have already guessed, this hospital charges is in par with the look of the hospital? ?expensive?. For e.g.: A day?s charge for a bed in the hospital is Rs.2000/-, a stress test costs Rs.1000/-, a TSH (blood test for the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) costs you 400 bucks. As compared to other Hospitals, This one stands among the renowned HINDUJA, WOCKHARDT? to name a few in Mumbai. Hence, you are justified in expecting ACCURACY in Hiranandani Hospital. However, I was disappointed & enraged!!

What took me to Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Hospital, Powai?

My mom did. My Mother had been keeping unwell and the reason was hinted as a cardio-diabetic-blood pressure problem by the doctor we consulted in Hinduja Hospital. Well?Well! My faith in doctors had already been a bit shaky and the experience with Hiranandani just shook this faith in the efficiency of the highly engineered and technologically advanced machineries used in such Hospitals as well.

My personal experience:

We didn?t consult any doctor in Hiranandani Hospital. We went there for the first time for a TSH & Stress Test for my mother, since the hospital was closer to my home than Hinduja Hosp. The first day in Hiranandani Hospital impressed me by it?s infrastructure but, depressed me at the inefficiency of the system to keep up with appointments.

I was there with my mother with a prior appointment. In spite of this, we were asked to wait for an hour or to return on Monday (we were there on a Saturday noon) for Our appointment. Reason: They had only one machine and they had unexpected patients waiting for the same test becoz they had a full-day Health Check up programme. Like I said earlier, the staff was polite and hence we finally postponed the appointment to Monday since mom had to return to office on Saturday itself.

Came Monday and mom was subjected to the stress test. We didn?t suspect anything amiss after the test and accounted mom?s pain in her left shoulder and arm to the assumption that my mother suffered from a cardiac problem. The days that followed till we showed the reports from Hiranandani hospital to mom?s Cardiologist in Hinduja, were days of anxiety & gloom.

The pain wouldn?t cease in my mother?s arm and it left a fear in the entire family?s heart. BUT!!! BUT!!! When the cardiologist in Hinduja, Dr. Navneet Kumar looked at the stress test report he smiled, took out his pen and encircled a portion.

All this while, I was wondering if he was enacting his school teacher when she marked a illogical answer in his answer papers. As a matter of fact, when he explained the entire thing to me, I realised that it was Indeed a MISTAKE on the part of Hiranandani Hospital. A 1000 rupee down the drain for a WRONG REPORT with the BASE LINE OF THE STRESS TEST READING MISPLACED!!! Add to that, all the mental agony our family went thru? and the physical pain that my mom?s still enduring!!

What had happened?

There was no doctor throughout the entire stress test, except towards the end when a not-so-promising looking doctor entered in just to introduce himself and quickly left. I was expecting a cardiologist to be there in the room while the entire stress test was being conducted since my mother was already a High BP & Diabetic patient.

The initial 20 minutes of the half an hour test was wasted in fixing the machine. Why the hell can?t they have a machine that?s working efficiently? Otherwise, they shouldn?t be giving appointments for stress test if their machine has been malfunctioning since a week (as confessed by the staff itself).

When the test started, proper monitoring was not done by the accompanying staff (told ya?no doc around!!) becoz of which my mom sustained a muscle pull in her left arm (that explained all that pain which had otherwise scared us as a cardio problem).

The most hilarious & GRAVE mistake was a misplaced Base Line!!! How do they explain that?? Well, I?m asking their Director, no doubt. Let me see what reason he comes up with for this unpardonable inefficiency?or are u waiting for wrong diagnosis and death to call this unpardonable??

I won’t give a high rating or recommendation to a hospital just for it’s looks. After all, if it’s not efficient in it’s duty, it definitely IS NOT WORTH IT!!
