The Dunkin’ Donuts outlet at Nehru Place is a cool hangout – the ambience is warm and inviting, the décor has a touch of class and it’s a very nice place to chill out at with a cup of coffee and some tasty snacks. However, one irritating incident really put me off and I haven’t visited the outlet since then.
After I had placed my order at the counter, the guy manning the counter asked me for my mobile number. I asked why that was necessary. He said that the place was large and sprawling with both indoor and outdoor seating and was, at that time, overcrowded. He said he may not be able to locate me once my order was ready. Fair enough. I gave him my phone number and he wrote it down on the coffee glass using a marker.
Ever since that day, I am constantly spammed by Dunkin’ Donuts – sometimes twice a day – with a steady stream of unsolicited SMS messages promoting various products and offers. This is completely unacceptable, unethical and downright impolite. I never gave the organization permission to use my number to spam me. It speaks volumes for the organization’s lack of basic values, manners and customer service principles.
This put me off to such an extent that I no longer visit any outlet of Dunkin’ Donuts. The spam, however, continues… unabated.
