Truth about eBay guarantee.

I purchased a Mee Mee pram from eBay on 30 Jan 2012. The seller was bayofbay. The pram was not up to my expectations hence I contacted seller as well as eBay for a refund.


The seller flatly denied the refund but agreed to replacement on condition I’ll have to bear the expanses of the refund shipment.


I contacted eBay and eBay’s nice call center assistant told me that they will help me with refund and will pay me for the shipment. I should file a claim and should wait for ebay’s call, then only I must ship the product back to the seller. eBay will contact me in 7 days.


Story is good till now.


I finally filed a claim on 6th of Feb 2012. Since then I have contacted ebay at least 7-8 times. Every time the standard response is Mr. Srinivas is looking into this claim matter and will contact you within 24 hours. When I asked for an escalation then I was told that they will contact me in 48 hours. Twice I was told that the issue is escalated. Every time the reason given to me is that seller is not picking up the phone. Though seller has picked up my call at least 7-8 times. Today again I was told the Mr Srinivas is on leave for past 3 days and I’ll we contacted withing 24 hours. I feel as if Mr. Srinivas is the heart and soul of eBay and eBay will not work in him absence. E-Bay as an organization is not responsible to ask someone else to look into my case. I feel so bad that I ever purchased from eBay. They do have a guarantee that doesn’t work it seems.


Wake up eBay competition is tough. You can’t hide behind Mr. Srinivas’s name.


20Feb2012 Swapnil K told me I’ll be contacted tomorrow. Lets wait for this tomorrow.


21Feb2012 finally Mr. Srinivas called me this morning. He asked me why I want to refund the product. I said the quality of the product is not upto the mark. So I want to exchange it. Mr. Srinivas told me that e-Bay is not responsible for anything. They will refund only if the product is received in damaged condition. So seller can promise me anything and can sale me anything and I can’t complain about it coz e-Bay’s guarantee is fraud. Then I asked Mr Srinivas then why e-bay made me wait for 15 days. he told me that my case was taken on priority. This guy was the rudest of the customtakeouter care executive I have ever interacted with. No manners at all, how to handle the client.


Here I would mention one more incident. I purchased some diapers from first cry and those diapers were horrible, as I complained about the quality of the diapers to first cry, they refunded me the money immediately. The staff was very polite. This is good will.


Finally I end up loosing Rs 1285/- for a product worth Rs 2845/- ebay is sick and it sucks.


Well, in the end when I accepted that I have finally lot the battle, I gave it a last try and I wrote to consumer forum of India. I got my refund within a week. So I’ll say jago grahak jago.
